Magis

This weekend the Middle School Magis camp will be held at the Point Walter Campsite. Twenty Magis students will be participating in the program which will include presentations and workshops from Alpha Motivation and Creative Edge, Academic challenges and competitions, a Talent Show, and, following the splendid Bell Shakespeare performance last week, there will be the second section of our Magis introduction to the world’s greatest writer,  featuring commentary from the key actors from the Award winning film, Shakespeare in Love, as well as scenes from this superb work. Of course there will also be a variety of sporting activities at this beautiful campsite. Warmest thanks to Mrs Alison O‘Connor who will be assisting with the event.

Next week four Magis teams will be representing the College at the World Scholar's Cup Global round in  Melbourne. The Years 9 and 10 teams will have the opportunity of seeing a variety of Melbourne highlights  over the six days of the tour, including superb art galleries, Federation Square, ACMI, AFL football at the MCG, a ferry tour to Williamstown, the Eureka Skydeck, the production ‘Mamma Mia’  and of course a city tour with shopping.  Warmest thanks to Ms Lisa Martella, Ms Milissa Jagers and Mrs Anastasia Tyson who will be assisting on this exciting venture.

The Mock Trial and Debating teams were defeated in their final rounds over the past fortnight, but had excellent seasons and are to be congratulated on representing the College with great distinction. Warmest thanks to teachers and past students who assisted these teams. It was pleasing to see the strong support of parents at these events. Meanwhile John XXIII College Tournament of Minds and Opti-MINDS teams are now preparing well for their regional rounds on  25 August, whilst the skills involved in these prestigious competitions will be tested in the Magis Creativity Challenge, our final competitive challenge for the year, which will be held after the World Scholar’s Cup teams return.
