PRIDE SQUAD NEWS

Wear it purple day

The Pride Squad have been planning for Wear it purple Day.

Wear it Purple Day is about showing rainbow young people, and everybody around us, that they have the right to be proud of who they are! In 2017, we invite you not only to be proud of who you are, but also to CELEBRATE everybody around you. Celebrate the diversity that surrounds each and every one of us; diversity in sex, sexuality and gender identities, in perspectives, in values, in everything!

This is the logo for 2017:

This year’s wear it purple day coincides with the last day of bookweek, where students and staff are invited to come as their favourite book character. The pride squad encourages individuals to add an item of purple to their outfit.

The rainbow flag will again be raised at the College on this day.

The Pride squad will be holding a sausage sizzle on the day and along with sausages, will be selling drinks, skittles, pringles, mm’s and  purple cupcakes.

Pride Squad’s birthday

Pride Squad celebrates it’s first birthday on 5th September. Birthday celebrations are in the process of being finalised, but I dare say we will be celebrating with rainbow cake.

In 12 months:

We have celebrated, IDAHOBIT day, Wear it purple day, harmony day, LGBTI history month and held a rainbow day launch.

We have participated in expo night with a stall, held a staff morning tea, run athletics day canteen, participated in the Pride March, purchased a rainbow flag and  held a flag raising ceremony, held regular fortnightly meetings, established a face book page, hosted Frankston Mornington Peninsula Action Group meeting, organised a fund raising bbq, set up and painted the closet, established a COG page and a  rainbow noticeboard, lunch meeting with EMC Equality Alliance Group, Created a banner with the support of Barry Rea from Superior Etchworx.

On behalf of the McClelland squad, I would personally like to than the McClelland College community for it’s contribution to making McClelland College more inclusive and accepting of diversity.

Meeting times

Meetings are held once a fortnight on a Wednesday at lunch time. See Robyn Andrews Year 12 Leader for further information.
