YEAR 7 NEWS

New look Year 7 MAX

We have a recent renovation of the Year 7 MAX over the school holidays.  Students came back to lockers moved away from walls to create more opportunity for student learning and work to be displayed.  The kitchen has been removed to increase the size of one of the learning spaces and a new intervention area has been established which will enable individual and small group intervention in literacy and numeracy. We encourage all Year 7 students to be responsible and look after their learning space in our learning community.  Look out for displays of new visual posters to enhance student learning too!

MAP selection for Year 8 2018

All forms should now be submitted indicating MAP preferences for 2018. This is essential to ensure that students are given an opportunity to get into their MAP of choice. However, if this form is not returned, students may not get their choice of MAP.  Entry into most costed MAPs will be subject to fees being paid for this Academy program.   All forms must be returned to the general office ASAP.

EPP Showcase

Elite Performance Program (EPP) students are full steam ahead in working on their showcase project.  Year 7 EPP’s have met their Year 8 mentors and some students have access to external mentors.  On Friday 4th August, students pitched their EPP project to Mrs Bucher and Mrs McCabe where feedback was given to support students extending their thinking.  On Monday 7th August, students were busy planning out and investigating their topics for their projects.  Some exciting projects are being planned which includes writing a novel, creating motor skill games for primary school students, creating a magazine for young readers, investigating whether infinity exists?, producing a song and performing it, exploring dance and its history, making maths easy by solving mathematical equations, creating a ICT game and lots more in stall!

Science  Classes

Last Friday on the 28th of July our Year 7 science classes were involved in a tree planting that occurred, planting some of the trees provided to us by the Frankston Council, the rest of the trees are planned to be planted later in the year. The trees that were planted, were put around the area where our students in the Design For The Environment MAP are building their deck seating areas, and also around the newly built doctor’s office near the front of the school. The planting went well and the Year 7’s enjoyed it, it was good opportunity to continue to beautify our school.
