SENIOR NEWS

Year 12 Jumper 2018

A committee consisting of 8 year 11 students have been meeting to organise a design for the 2018 jumper. To be part of the committee, students had to submit a design.

Once the committee was established:

The first step was to decide on a rugby jumper or a varsity jacket. All Year 11’s were asked to vote and the winner was the varsity jacket.

Next step colour – a solid colour for the body of either dark grey, purple or teal was decided by the committee and a contrasting solid colour for the sleeves.

Reform clothing followed up by sending us three designs and the next step is to again ask all  the year 11 students to vote on:

  1. teal body, dark grey sleeves
  2. dark grey body, purple sleeves
  3. dark grey body, light grey sleeves

This will then be followed up by a decision on which logo to go with and the back of the jumper.

The cost of the varsity jacket  is TBC but will be approximately $100. Payment for the jacket has to be made in advance of them being ordered. To have in time for HEADSTART we will be looking at ordering them by the end of this term. So if interested, Year 12 students 2018 will need to start saving.

Access Monash

Aspire Higher

Students in Aspire Higher  were offered the opportunity to attend Access Education Unit 3 revision lectures at Monash University Clayton during the June School holidays at no charge.

A number of students embraced the opportunity to attend the lectures and feed back has been really positive as it gave students the opportunity to hear about their studies from another perspective.

Melbourne University Visit

Students in Aspire Higher requested a visit to The University of Melbourne,  other interested students were also invited to attend.A group of 17 students along with Mrs Andrews and Vinnie (pre service teacher set off on July 26th.The day started off by checking out how long it takes via public transport to get there. Students were surprised at how direct it was in 1 hour 15 minutes we arrived at the lecture theatre.Students sat in on a 45 minute presentation about the University, followed by an hour long tour and then opportunity to explore and find some lunch before return. Given the size of the University we were fortunate to cross paths with  two ex- McClelland College students Maria Rychkova and Joshua Hughes.

For some –it has confirmed that this is their University of Choice, for others the realisation that they need to have a backup plan and for others not the University for them.

Immunisation Cards

Year 12 students were given a vaccination card for Meningococcal Disease Strain W last week. Vaccination occurs at the College on the 7th September, please  read the following, make an informed decision and return cards to front office, whether your child is going to have the vaccination or not.

Please note the following from  https://myvaccination.com.au:

While practicing good hygiene can help to protect against the spread of germs, vaccination is the only truly effective way to help prevent meningococcal disease. But did you know that even with their routine vaccinations, your child may still be at risk from common strains of meningococcal?

There’s no single vaccine that protects against all types of meningococcal disease.

There are now vaccines available for the five most common strains of the disease in Australia (A, B, C, W & Y), however not all of these strains are immunised against on the National Immunisation Program.

Children who receive their routine vaccinations in Australia are protected against one type of meningococcal disease (meningococcal C) and can still be susceptible to other types.
