VCE and Careers Expo – Year 12 Excursion

The annual VCE and Careers Expo is being held at the Caulfield Racecourse from Thursday 3 May to Sunday 6 May. This year all Year 12 students will be attending an excursion to this event on Friday 4 May. This event is separate to the Expo held at the College each year. 

The VCE and Careers Expo is Australia’s largest careers and education event with 170 exhibitors providing information on VCE, tertiary courses, study skills, career advice and gap years. Exhibitors include Australia’s major univerisites, tafes and private tertiary providers. The Expo also features 175 seminars on VCE subjects including English and Maths, tertiary courses, career and study advice over the four days. The admission ticket, paid for by the College, is valid for all four days of the Expo should students wish to return over the weekend.

It is imperative that students from years 9 – 12 begin the important task of researching what is available to them regarding the industry they may want to pursue for their future direction. Open Days are an extension of this research and is important in knowing which environment the students can see themselves. Open days are held on the weekends throughout August and September each year and it is impossible to go to them all in Year 12 (especially if students have part time jobs on the weekends) It is therefore recommended that students go to some open days in Year 10, some in Year 11 and some in Year 12. It is important also to go to the different campuses of particular universities. For example, it is pointless to go to Monash’s Clayton campus to look at Pharmaceutical Science if that particular course is only offered at Monash’s Parkville campus.

It must be noted that those students who enjoy their course in further education or chosen apprenticeships, are those who have done some research and made informed decisions. 

Career Expos are a great way to start some research so I encourage students to check out next week’s Expo at the Caulfield racecourse. 

Please note that the Nazareth College Career Expo will this year be joined with the subject selection night for Year 9 and 10’s on August 1st.Whilst the school expo is aimed at Year 9 and 10 students, everyone is welcome to come along between 6.00 – 8.00pm on Wednesday 1st August.
