Faith and Wellbeing Assistant Principal's Report

Week 1, Term 2

Our students returned last week and it was a great reminder of the beautiful young people we are so blessed to be able to work with and serve at Nazareth.  We continue to try to do the best we can to look after the whole person and their formation and learning.  If there are concerns you have or issues in the lives of your children that may be affecting them at school, please be very free to contact us so we can support them (as we desire to).

Uniform

It is great to see the vast majority of students in the correct uniform.  Thank you to those students. A reminder that in Terms 2 and 3 the blazer is to be worn each day to and from school and that all students should have the winter uniform. A reminder also that the students are permitted to wear a simple sleeper or stud in the ear lobe.  Piercings other than this are not permitted at school.

New Wellbeing Centre now open

Welcome to the Wellbeing Centre!

We are very pleased to be able to tell you about our new Wellbeing Centre. This is a place in the school where students can come to relax and feel calm, a safe place for students to unwind from the busyness of school life. Ms Venturini and Ms Kol have their office in the centre and are available to chat to students if they feel the need. It is open before school and at lunchtime, and various wellbeing activities will be scheduled which students can participate in. Or if they prefer, they can pull up a bean bag, read a magazine and have some quiet time to themselves.

Young Women's Gala Day

On Friday 20th April, 11 of our Year 9 Girls participated in the Young Women’s Gala Day, presented by the City of Greater Dandenong Youth and Family Services.

Local secondary schools in the area came together to explore the importance of regular physical activity, positive body image and self-care. The day also featured a variety of sporting activities, interactive workshops and an expo of local sporting clubs and organisations.

Here are some reflections from the girls who attended on the day.

Throughout the day we participated in six physical activities including; skateboarding, soccer, AFL, fitness, yoga and positive body image. Personally, I enjoyed the fitness circuit, were I was able to try different exercise and push myself to my limit. I particularly enjoyed being able to interact with the other year nine students throughout the day.

For any AFL fans, the captain of the Woman’s St Kilda team, coach and other players attended the event and were present throughout a section of the day. The day is great for individuals who enjoy sport, however, even if it is not something you usually partake in, it is an enjoyable day where you can discover sports you enjoy and join up to clubs and teams.

The entire day was inspirational for young woman from the guest speaker, talking about how she had come from Afghanistan and was not allowed to participate in sports until she came to Australia and realised that woman have different rights here, to the teams and clubs, encouraging young woman to participate in sport, providing free lessons and one on one training.

The gala was very enjoyable, I participated in various sports with other schools with my friends. I met other people from other schools who enjoyed the same sport.

My favourite activity was skate boarding, which I have never done before but I found very interesting I also enjoyed the body image activity that help me feel better about my body.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Young Women’s Gala Day hosted by the City of Greater Dandenong. I particularly enjoyed skateboarding, as it helped build my confidence when trying new things. The sausage sizzle provided by the RSL was delicious and I was definitely encouraged to try more sports outside of school.
