Studio Arts excursion

Top Arts | Ivan Durant Exhibition | Yhonnie Scarce exhibition

Studio Art students were involved in a whole day excursion where they visited Top Arts and the Ivan Durant Exhibition at the Ian Potter Gallery. After lunch they travelled to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and attended a lecture of the Yhonnie Scarce: ‘Missile Park’ exhibition

Scarce is an artist known for her sculptural installations. The students were amazed by her research and installation artworks. As a master glass-blower, Scarce used this medium to create spectacular and spectral installations full of aesthetic, with cultural and political significance. Her work also incorporates archived photographs and found objects to explore the impact and legacies of colonial and family histories and memory.

The students had deep conversations as they learnt about the history of the Woomera in South Australia, and Scarce’s representations of Indigenous historical accounts. The girls were thrilled when Scarce was also present in the gallery to discuss her work.
