Writing Fractured Fairy Tales

Year 5 have been busily working on Fractured Fairy Tales during term three as part of their Writing experience. This is where you take a traditional fairy tale and put a unique spin on it. Read the following orientations, or story segments, from some of the Year 5 students. Can you identify which traditional fairy tale was fractured?

The evil queen demanded a rematch but wanted five minutes to get ready. In that five minutes she smeared poison on… the steering wheel of her car, so when she touched it she would surely die.

~ Henry F, 5B

So the children packed their bags, collected their money and headed out into the world, each taking a different path.

“Oh, and don’t forget, you must be careful of the big bad bandit! He will steal everything you have, including you!” called out their mother.

~ Mathilda L, 5B

When they finally stopped, she hid behind a bin.

“Did you see something move there Hip?” one of the dancer’s asked.

“Hip must be a nickname,” Stella thought.

“No Hop, I didn’t!  All that sugar from those coco pops must be going to that hollow space in your head,” Hip replied bemused.

“Huh! I wonder if they know together they make Hip Hop,” Stella wondered.

The dancers left to get their lunch and she took a chance to look around. It was a pretty normal studio, nothing that interesting, but then she saw the stairs and had to take a look. Up the top, on the second floor, there were seven different beds all named after different styles of dance.

~ Penny P, 5B

Her mother had passed away. After a few years her father had remarried and then he had died on a work trip. So the only parental figure left was her stepmother. She was a wicked lady and made her do all the cleaning.

~ Asha B, 5C

It was time to impress the princess. He put a rose on his bow, and when everyone was watching he lined up the rose and it flew… straight to the ground. Everyone started laughing and walked away

~ Will S, 5C

The Evil Gingerbread Man is too sweet for his own good. He only feels good about himself when he has lots of sugar. Unfortunately, it makes him behave badly. He is mean to everyone….

~ Dash B, 5A

A little while ago, I was left alone in the deep dark city of Melbourne. Full of dark, foreboding sky-scrapers. My name is Greta. My mean stepmother left me and my brother here…

~ Amy C, 5A

Commemorative Clothing

It’s that time so the term when our Year 5 students start the process of determining the colours and design of their 2021 commemorative hoodies and t-shirts.

Students will be asked to vote for their design and colour choices in their Google Classroom at the end of this week. We look forward to seeing what they come up with as their school wear for Year 6!
