Positivity
Aaravinda Bala, Early Childhood Educator
Positivity makes a person to think in an optimistic way, look for solutions, adapt to changes, focus and make their life happier. It is a happy and worry-free state of mind, which looks at the bright side of life.
There is a mind body connection. All our body functions are virtually controlled by neurotransmitters from feeling happy to modulating hormones to dealing with stress. Our thoughts influence our bodies directly because the body interprets the messages coming from the brain and prepare us for whatever is expected. By managing our attitudes and stress levels, we actually control neurochemical transmissions in the body.
Nature, in the purest sense, is where both serenity and wildness coexist in harmony.
Nature walks make us feel both peaceful and uneasy all at once. Perhaps this is because all life began in nature and all life ends there. Walking in nature strengthens our immune systems and our muscles. It’s not only our minds that benefit from time in the woods, but also our bodies.
Plants emit phytoncides to protect themselves from insects and rotting. A study from the Nippon Medical School in Tokyo found when humans breathe in these chemicals it increases the number of natural kill cells, a type of white blood cell, in our bodies. The air near moving water, forests and mountains contains high levels of negative ions, which are thought to potentially reduce symptoms of depression.
Potting an indoor plant or looking at trees through your window at home, the images of nature, sounds and smells of nature can have positive health effects.
Our Team
Marion Saavedra, Early Childhood Educator
This year we have been very fortunate to have recruited two amazing educators join the GEKA Orrong Road team. Even though we have only spent a short amount of time together, it has felt like we have been a team for years. We have all fitted together like a puzzle. It has been so nice to see everyone helping each other out and looking after each other.
We look forward to an even better term 4, weather we are together physically or remotely, as we continue to build our relationships, each and everyday.
As the team leader of the group, I want to thank each and everyone one of you for helping us stick together through the thick and the thin. You are all amazing and a doing a brilliant job.
