Year 11 Systems Technology

In the last few weeks the Year 11 Systems Engineering class have been investigating the operations of simple machine systems using Lego prototyping and modelling equipment. This is an important aspect of Unit 1 Area of Study 1 - Mechanical System Design. This new set of resources have enabled the analysis of the structure and function of multiple types of simple machines.

Small modelling projects have commenced on the use of gear systems. The functions and mathematical aspects of a compound gear train were measured and calculated.  The students have also been investigating, practically, rotary motion and its transfer through a ninety degree angle with a drive and crown gear environment.  The most recent project has been the investigation of the function of pneumatics and complex lever systems in a crown lift structure.  Building small models has enabled the students to develop a better insight into the complex analysis of machines.
