Clyde North Campus News

A wonderful week of celebrations. Students completed the wall of gratitude to the women in their lives which they began last week as part of International Women’s Day. As you can see there were plenty of heartfelt messages of joy and appreciation. Harmony day was a spectacular splash of colour as many students wore traditional dress, and orange the colour of Harmony.
Harmony day truly reflects the very special bond that our students have with one another, delighting in sharing traditional dance, food, art and language to express our faith, unity and love for one another. We were fed well by the VCAL students catering for all sweet and savoury taste buds. It was obvious to all the meticulous planning that had gone into preparing the food and activities provided by our VCAL students.
The day culminated in an assembly that needed no special guests or performers as we were thoroughly entertained and delighted by the dances, songs and musical items of our very own students. We shared in the chorus of I am Australian and enjoyed the energetic traditional Mauritius dance that included teachers as well as students. My special thanks go to Mr Wallwork and Mr Pulley who enable our assemblies to appear effortless due to their hard work behind the scenes. I also acknowledge the College Captains who are becoming strong visible leaders in our community. Their confidence and expertise in running assemblies is a visible reminder of their wish to become true servant leaders of our community. Finally my sincere appreciation goes to all the students who embraced the day and our theme this year to Create Harmony. We have much to be grateful for and this is illustrated beautifully on days such as this.
Here is just a small sample of the messages of gratitude to the women who play such a vital and significant role in our lives. Thank You.

How this space has transformed since last year. It has now become the central meeting space for students to meet, enjoy good conversation, laugh, and share in quiet reflection.

- Did you know that Harmony Day began in 1999 and since then more than 25,000 Harmony Day events have been held across the country?
- Australians identify with over 270 ancestral backgrounds.
The future and our Challenge.
Sometimes it can be difficult to reconcile what you learn in the classroom with what you see on television and in the newspapers. We are taught that everyone is equal and not to judge anyone based on their nationality, religion or culture, but every day we see (or hear about) conflict that is based on religion, race or culture. You might be asking yourself what you, as a child, can do to improve the world. Well you can do a lot. If you treat everyone with respect, ensure that people are included and take the time to find out about other cultures, you can help the world to become a more peaceful place. Let us begin in our school and with our friendship group, then we become the servant leaders who take the values of compassion, respect, tolerance, inclusion and harmony out into the world with us. We can be responsible to help make the future better for all of us.
The first ladder positions for the Rosemary Graham Shield 2019.
Augustine have taken an early lead but I am sure that the other houses have started to prepare for the next round of inter-house competitions. All students can actively support their houses by ensuring their house is always free of litter, and students are not receiving strikes for uniform, chewing gum and lateness infringements. A house is a collective made up of students, teachers and of course the house leader. It takes all members to ensure that their house is represented with pride, enthusiasm, care and concern for the environment and each other. It will be interesting to see the ladder positions at the end of the term, will Augustine still be in front?
Year 7 Immunisations
Year 7 Immunisations will take place on 25th March. Please ensure all forms have been returned.
Year 7 Camp
We have now rescheduled the Clyde North Year 7 Camp for 16th to 18th September 2019. While this is unfortunately in third term, there were no other earlier dates that were available for the Forest Edge Campsite and suitable on our calendar. This will still be an important occasion for our students to develop and deepen their friendships amongst other Year 7 students while giving them the opportunity to undertake challenging and fun activities.
I wish you all a happy and productive week.
Mrs Julie Banda
Deputy Principal - Head of East Campus
