WELC Report

Message from the WELC Coordinator

- Ms. Carmela Santucci

This term the students in the Language Centre have worked very hard to improve their English Language Skills and have demonstrated positive behaviours and attitudes in learning English. Being immersed in an English-speaking environment at Westall promotes, reinforces and maintains language learning in a supportive but challenging manner.

Our Parent/Teacher interviews were held on the 12th of March. The evening was well attended by parents, guardians and International School Coordinators. The Language Centre’s communication with families is vital in assisting students’ progress. Students are also encouraged to attend these interviews and participate in receiving feedback on their progress.

Our students recently visited Healesville Sanctuary and our focus was on endangered Australian animals and birds. Our guide was very engaging and informative. A favourite event on the day was the Spirits of the Sky demonstration; eagles, parrots and owls flew low over our heads, demonstrating their skills in catching prey.

Harmony Day is a very special event and the Westall school community come together to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity present in our school. The Harmony Day assembly provides the opportunity for students and staff to dress in their national costume and to entertain the school with beautiful dances and sing songs in different languages  The Westall English Language Centre Choir sang “Count on me” led by Miss Deborah Morgan.
