HICES Netball Report

On Friday 4th May eight energetic girls set off early to Hills Grammar School to participate in the HICES Netball Gala Day. After a long bus trip which included rescuing OAGS from the side of the road after they had a flat tyre we finally arrived.

The girls started strongly with wins over OAGS (12-8), Redlands (10-2), and All Saints Bathurst (14-9). Due to a delayed start our team had to play five games through without a break until lunchtime. After our positive start we faced tougher opposition in William Clarke, Central Coast Grammar, Arndell Anglican College House and Pittwater House. Our final game saw us have a convincing win against St Pauls Grammar (8-3).

After the round robin format two of our players Alice Waddell and Charli Greatbatch were chosen for the possible versus probables. These two exhausted girls then had more match play where a HICES team was chosen. Congratulations to Charli Greatbatch on her selection in the HICES netball team. She will now play in Sydney this Friday 18th May in the CIS Netball Primary Championships. We wish Charli all the best.

To get a player selected in HICES as a shooter requires a whole team effort to get the ball to them in the circle. Credit must be given to all the girls who participated as they tried their best all day, playing together for the first time and after only one brief training session. Well done to Matilda Quigley, Scarlett MacKenzie and Sophie Smith who worked tirelessly in defence, Charlotte Jones, Sarah Choi and Maddie Sinclair who worked the ball through the centre court and of course to Charli and Alice who shot well during the day.

Thanks to Darren for driving us there and back (long day for all) and for supporting us on the sidelines. Also, thanks to Tracey Greatbatch for cheering the girls on all day and slotting in as a Team Manager on the day.

Mrs Kimberley Jones

Rugby Reports

11’s - Another great day despite a slow start from both teams. Game 1 the KWS whites were wiping the sleep from their eyes and struggled against a well drilled Emus Brown. Defeated 5-2. Game 2 saw the Whites line up against a Bathurst Bulldogs side out for revenge from the previous week. Bulldogs up 5-3.   Game 3 and the Whites faced the highly fancied Parkes Boars. They ground out a 3 all draw to end the day strongly. Outstanding performance from Koby Bryan, big improvement from Spencer Johnston and Jack Carslake.  Hugh Payne and Austen Schaapveld also work hard for their team mates.

Mr Shannon

A huge improvement from KWS Blue this week with all the boys improving. We started with a win over Milthorpe, then came up against a very good Parkes side which defeated us. The boy’s best game was against Orange City which ended in a draw. Best on field this week were Lachie De Vries and Ollie Smith. Most improved were Jack Dunsworth and Matt Roper. Toughest was Lachie Knight. The coaches were very impressed with the whole team.

Mr Robson, Mr Goodsir and Mr Shannon

12’s - Over the last 2 weeks 12’s Rugby have participated in a 7’s Gala Day in Sydney and played Orange Emus 13’s. The Sydney trip featured 3 games against Coogee Boys, Newington (Lindfield) and Waverley College.  The boys played some outstanding running rugby, supporting each other and muscling up in defence winning all 3 games and a ‘slurpee’ from Mr Fabar! In the Emus game we reverted to 15-a-side and enjoyed a tough game against the bigger boys.  In a game where again the emphasis was on ‘running rugby’ the boys acquitted themselves very well, only tiring in the last 10 minutes when Emus ran in a number of tries.  The game was played in great spirit and we look forward to further games against the boys from Emus.

Football Reports

U7 Pumas – The Pumas played a great first game on Saturday. We were holding our own for the first half of the game, with Louis displaying some wonderful kicking across the field to get it down to our goal area. Then Charlie scored the first goal of the game. We also portrayed some great defence against the opposition with super fielding from Chrysalide, Grace, Vivian and Zaro. However, despite our good team work the OAGS Stars scored three goals in the second half. Well done Pumas keep up the great team work.

Charlie Haydon

We played against the KWS Leopards.  Louis almost kicked a goal at the beginning.  Mia had her first soccer match and did well.  Grace and Charlie did their best to chase down the ball and tackle the Leopards.  Chrysalide kicked our one goal for the match which was so exciting.  I tried my best to kick hard and follow through.  It was a fun match to play against our friends.

Vivian Meates

U8 Cobras – On Saturday morning, after the snow and rain, U8's KWS Cobras played Anglican Grammar at Jack Brabham.  They were a strong team and our goal keepers Jed and Pixie did a great job at protecting our goal. Lucas and Hannah were very committed to defending and George was good on attack, managing to kick two gaols. Grammar scored 4 goals.  It was a great start to our season together.

George Nash

U9 Thunder – It was an incredible first game, our goalie this week was TJ he must have been practising, and he had some amazing blocks! We played well as a team, everyone on the other team was tall so it was hard to get the ball. It was a good team effort with two goals and two for the other team that saw us end in a draw.

There is a great season ahead for Thunder thanks to Mrs Houston!

U9 Doves – Under 9 Doves had a great first game against the CYMS Sparkles! We had lots of players new to netball but everyone played as a team and put in a fantastic effort.

Hannah Birmili

U10 Bluebirds – The U10 Bluebirds lost its first game of the netball season against the Hawks on the weekend.  The final score was 16 –3 however the Bluebirds got it together as the match went on, helped by the new team players Alice, Ava, Lucinda and Olivia.  Team players, Harriet and Katie helped make the match fast and fun while Mrs Seedsman gave the team some handy tips to improve their skills.

Julia Bligh

U11 Firebirds – The Firebirds had a tough game versing the OPS Popstars.  It was an unfortunate loss but we played as a team more and more during the game.  Emily scored our one and only goal, making the score 1 to 11.  The team that we played was very good at netball but we still fought our hardest to win the game.  This is only the second time we played as a team and our coach, Mrs Caro, said that we did an outstanding job.  The defenders had a very hard job trying to prevent the other team scoring, but we all gave it our best.  The attackers also had a hard job getting the ball to the goal circle.  Everybody played to the best of their ability and we had lots of fun.

Charlotte Buckley

U12 Falcons – We did really well for our first game. The Falcons defeated the Cymsters 11 to 2. It was Helen and Molly’s first game and they played wonderfully. We supported each other and got into space to get the ball. Our shooting was good seeing that it was the first game of the season and our defence was strong. Our timing the run and getting the ball improved as the games went on. A big thank you to Mrs Aldersey and Mrs Goodsir for looking after us.

Emma Northam

U12 Hawks – KWS Hawks played the Life Studio Wildcats in round one. In the first quarter the Wildcats scored nine goals to our one. This shocked us into action and we improved both our attack and defence. For the remainder of the game we scored nine goals to the Wildcats’ two. It was disappointing to lose the game by just one point, however we had played eight games the previous day in Sydney and were exhausted.  Well done team.

Scarlett MacKenzie

Under 12 Hawks did very well and worked together this week to win big. Mrs Jones was a great help and pushed us to do our best. After a quiet first quarter we had a cracker in the second and fourth. We came through with a great win 18-6.

Hockey Reports

Kookaburras –The Kookaburras have had a great start to the season with their first game against the Molong Zebras resulting in a tie:  2-2.  Congratulations to Bianca Wong who scored both of our goals.  Every player grew in confidence over the game with a lot more passes and dribbling happening in the second half.  We are all looking forward to the season, particularly Mrs Key’s encouragement from the sidelines!

Audrey Blyth

Scorpions – This week we played Canobolas Lightning. We had a great game and we learnt how to pass a little more. There was some great running by Lucy Reidy and defence by the whole team. Well done to our Goalie Caitlin Reid. Hugo O’Brien and myself managed to score a goal each making the score 2 all.

Will Payne

It was a very challenging game against the other team who showed great skill. Everyone looked like they were having a good time. Will Payne scored a great goal.  The end score was 2-1 to Molong.  Thank you to Mrs Coote for being the best coach in the world.

Angelina McRae

Rhinos – We had a great first game on Wednesday night and we had a win 3-1. Our attacking was really good and we did some great passing. I can’t wait for the rest of the season.

Madison Jones

Wallabies – On the 2nd May the KWS Wallabies came up against the CYMS Strikers for our first match of the season. It felt good to be back and playing. Although we lost 2 -0, our skills were great considering some of us had never even played hockey before. A huge thank you to Mrs Barrett and Miss Butler for coaching us and we are looking forward to a fun season with you.

Amelia Hill

Unfortunately the Wallabies lost their game this week, 4-0. There were a few key players that I would like to mention. Amelia and Hannah were great at defending throughout the game.  Abby was very consistent with her defence too. Tessa did so well with her attack and Lotti regained the ball quickly on many occasions.  Well done to everyone on the team. I look forward to a good game again next week!

Lucinda Clinton

Brumbies – The Brumbies played very well against CYMS.  Even though we lost seven to zero the team co-operated very well.  There was some excellent tackles.  Our goalie Lillian Pearce tried her best to block all the goals.  Even though she couldn’t block all the goals she blocked as many as she could.  Lillian did a wonderful job!  The rest of the team was excellent! I’m looking forward to the next game!

Isabella Lloyd George

Emus – This week the Emu’s played very well.  Everyone ran fast and hit the ball hard.  Even though we played well we didn’t win. The score was 1 all but it was a good game.  Rhys did a great job at goalie as well.

Foxes - On Monday May 7, the Foxes played against CYMS. Our goalie, Lolli, didn't see much action because of our strikers and mids strong attacking play. Mrs Barrett encouraged us to play new positions and to just have fun. We did and we won 2-0.
