A Message from the

Head of Prep School

Term 2 Week 3

Mrs Sue Houston, who has been teaching in the Prep School for 14 years, has been appointed to the KOC School in Turkey commencing at the end of this term.   This is a wonderful opportunity for Mrs Houston to share her expertise and knowledge.  She has been an outstanding and extremely dedicated classroom teacher as well as being heavily involved in the co-curricular program, coaching a variety of sports including soccer, cricket and tennis.  She has also been instrumental in the success of the K-2 show over many years.  Mrs Houston will be greatly missed by students, staff, parents and friends but we all wish her every success in her new appointment and look forward to learning of her experiences.  The school will advise of Mrs Houston’s replacement in the coming weeks.

Last weekend our Rugby Gala Day was another excellent demonstration of the community spirit within our school.

I wish to acknowledge:  Prep staff for their assistance in the preparation of the day, our parent body who worked tirelessly at the canteen and BBQ, to our parents and students who refereed and to our Year 12 students who raised money for Camkids.  Also a special mention to Jarrod Rose, Siobhan Harvey and Cassie Carslake for their organisation in providing the food and the special chocolate gifts for all the mums.

Last week I was delighted to share time with our Year 3 students and their mums for a special mothers’ day breakfast.  The students were so excited and, as with all classes, presented their mums with a special gift and ‘showed off’ their classrooms.  I hope all mums enjoyed their special day.

Next Monday we are hosting an evening for prospective parents who are considering KWS Preparatory for their child’s education.  If you know of friends or family who may be interested please ask them to phone the enrolments office on 6392 0303 or the Prep School on 6392 0316 for further information.

Congratulations to all our students who competed in our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival.  In a terrific day of competitive running a team has been selected to represent us at the WAS and HICES cross country carnivals over the next few weeks. Also I wish to mention the students who competed and didn’t figure on the winning dais.

It has always been a sense of great pride at KWS where our students ‘have a go’.  Cross Country is not for everyone but the students competed up and down hills, short of breath with a few ‘stomach cramps’ but they were involved and for that they also deserve congratulations.

Students from Year 3 and Year 5 are currently sitting the NAPLAN assessments. These assessments can be valuable in providing data on students’ capabilities and we look forward to the individual results in August.

Finally our Year 6’s are off campus learning more about our democratic nation in Canberra.  This is a 4 day excursion with opportunities to explore venues such as Parliament House, Museums, Art Gallery, War Memorial, Zoo, National Archives, AIS and the electoral centre.  Thank you to all the staff who are attending.

At Assembly we acknowledged the following students:

  • Courtesy Award –Week 3 –Jack Dunworth 5M.
  • Citizenship Award – Week 3 – Jack Carslake 4P and Will Payne 3R.
  • Principal’s Award – Week 3 – Maya Bracks 5P.

Enjoy your week.

Car Park

As we are aware, the time before school and after school is a busy time in the Prep car park.  While the afternoon is moving relatively well, considering the number of cars, the time before commencement of the school day is causing some frustration.

The Kiss and Go principle means drop off your child and continue.  It is not a parking area as it prevents others finding a safe place for their child to alight from the car.  If we can all assist, the area will be safer for each and every child.
