Commerce Goes Online

Year 10s are Starting Smart

This week the Year 10 Commerce students participated in a digital workshop program by Start Smart, an award-winning financial education program offered to school aged students across Australia to help them prepare for their future. The interactive, educational workshops run by the Commonwealth Bank are designed to motivate and inspire students and give them the confidence and skills to make smart decisions about money.

Our Year 10 Commerce students engaged in the topics; smart saving and spending, to help them to better navigate these issues throughout their future. They played games, responded to questions and discussed real life spending and saving scenarios.

The students participated via zoom so that they were able to gain these valuable life skills… just in a new way! They enjoyed the sessions and of course they learnt something too!

What did our students learn?

Students share their key take-aways from the workshop.

  • We learnt new ways to save money and how to be a smart spender.
  • Did you know that if you fill a Coca-Cola bottle with $2 coins you will have $1000?
  • Saving is easier than I thought it was.
  • I learnt that shops are designed to make you spend money, the way they are set up gets your attention and then you buy more.
  • I enjoyed learning about the effect of the Gruen transfer.

We are all navigating our way through these changed circumstances and the positives just keep revealing themselves!
