Our Creative Scientists

Year 10s create models of DNA

Mrs Burnell set her Year 10 Science class a task: construct a model of DNA with materials you have at home and upload a picture. They had a short amount of time to complete this task and they needed to get creative with whatever they had to hand! Here are three of the models the students made with material at home.

How did Year 8s learn about cells?

During one class, I projected a powerpoint about Cells using Google Meet. As I worked through the powerpoint, I asked the students questions and they gave the answers in the chat.  I then used their answers to click on the correct cell part in the powerpoint.

The students worked really well on this task - it was almost like being in a real classroom. The class was polite and tooks turns; they worked together to answer the questions. I enjoyed this activity and so did the students.

This is a new class for me this term due to a timetable change so I haven’t met the students in person yet. I’m looking forward to meeting Fern 8 in the future.

Mitosis and more

Year 10 students have been learning about cell replication, specifically mitosis and meiosis. Students have been creating models or drawing cartoons to illustrate the process.
