From the Principal

Welcome back

After a challenging start to Term 2, it is with great pleasure that I welcome all students and their families back to onsite learning. The Government’s staged return will begin on Tuesday 28th May with Year 11 and 12 students beginning their learning onsite. All other Year Levels will learn from school from Tuesday 9th June. School Leadership teams and teachers are currently developing a “return to school” policy, based on DET guidelines and advice from the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff and students. Detailed information of our safe return procedures will be communicated to all families via Compass and by letter later this week.

While it is now time for us all to look to the future and begin to make plans for the remainder of 2020, I do want to finish this message with a thank you to all students, families and staff and acknowledge how well they have supported each other through this challenging time. Our students’ engagement has remained incredibly strong, with many demonstrating greater independence and resilience in their learning and our teachers have continued to deliver a high quality and innovative remote learning program. An acknowledgement too to all our education support staff who have been critical in ensuring that our families and teachers can operate at their best from home.

While I am incredibly proud of the way our school has navigated “lockdown” and I am sure our students are continuing to thrive, despite the distance, I am very much looking forward to everyone’s safe return. Together we will capture the positives and powerful learning from this challenging experience and define our “new normal”.

Finally, please note that given how hard our students have been working during the last few weeks and to provide teachers with the time they need, to plan and prepare learning and assessment for a smooth return, the following “Recharge” days will be implemented. On these days I would ask that students take the time to rest and have a break from their learning, so that that they are refreshed and ready to return to school. Remote learning programs will not be posted online on these days:

  • Senior Students – Wednesday 20th May (no SACs have been scheduled for this day, but student can choose to continue to prepare for their remaining assessments)
  • Years 7–10 – Tuesday 2nd June
