Public Speaking Competition
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Lions Club Public Speaking competition to witness students from years 3-6 showcase their speaking skills in front of a large audience. Congratulations to Zoe K, Scarlett M, Missy D and Quinn M who represented Buninyong PS to the highest of standards. The way in which they conducted themselves both on and off the stage was a credit to their families and ensured they were wonderful ambassadors for our school.
This event was the conclusion to our Public Speaking program that involved students in:
- Researching and writing a 3-4 minute speech on a set topic.
- Practising, reflecting and gaining feedback from others in order to improve their delivery and content.
- Presenting at the school level competition.
- Further refining the speech in preparation for the finals.
- Presenting at the Lions Club Public Speaking competition.
Buninyong and Scotsburn students competed against children from Emmaus and Napoleons PS. The standard of competition throughout was extremely high.
In the end Quinn Moore was successful in taking out the Year 3/4 competition, which was an excellent effort. Congratulations Quinn.
Book Fair
Next week the Library will be set up as the Book Fair. There will be no student borrowing from the Library during the week while the Book Fair is set up, however students will be given the opportunity to browse all the books on display. The Book Fair will be open before school from 8.15am and after school until 4pm should parents wish to come along and purchase a book.
Please note that all purchases will earn points for the school that helps ensure our library is well maintained and stocked with new and interesting books for the students to read.
PLC Newsletters
During this week, if you have not already received them, all families will be sent copies of the year level newsletters that help outline the focus and key reminders for the term ahead. These newsletters form as a wonderful reminder of what the key learning themes will be in your child’s year level, some important information that assist with the everyday running of classrooms and details about upcoming excursions or camps.
These newsletters will be sent to all families as a Compass notification but will also be stored on the Compass Community tab under School Documentation.
Solar Boat Challenge
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the Solar Boat Challenge due to the worsening weather this week. Although a number of schools have had to pull out, we will try again on Monday 22nd October.
I apologise for the any inconvenience.
School Magazine
It is that time of year where we work to start creating the school magazine. The magazine includes all students in the school from both campuses as well as celebrating the major events from the year.
Most of you will have already purchased this magazine as part of your fees at the start of the year. However, iF you would like to order a copy or would just like to check if you have already done so, please contact the office.
Helping your Child to Read
Last week we had a look at ways in which we can support our children to foster conversations with those around them. This week the attached document focusses on how we can support our children to develop and maintain an enjoyment of reading.
These strategies provides an excellent opportunity to model strong learning values such as persistence, enthusiasm and curiosity.
The advice is broken into two areas; Birth – Year 2 and Year 3 – Year 6 so there is support on offer for all primary school aged children.
