SAKG

Introducing Elisa Cleeve - SAKG kitchen specialist
Hello everyone,
I’m Elisa and I’m the new SAKG Cooking Teacher. I’m really excited to be joining the team at Monty and for the opportunity to work with your children.
Food and Nutrition Education is something I am very passionate about. For much of my professional life I worked as a Dietitian, at both Royal Melbourne and Austin Hospital’s. When my now teenage children were young I ran a small private Dietetic practice as this fitted in with busy family life. Some years ago I was looking for a change, and felt teaching was the right fit with my skills as an educator. I have enjoyed being a classroom teacher but my ultimate goal has been to combine the two roles, and I am extremely enthusiastic for this opportunity.
I love bringing fresh produce straight to the table and minimising food miles. My family has a thriving herb and vegetable garden (although I must admit it is usually a lot better in the warmer months!) and we also grow some fruits. During summer we love picking berries and eating them straight from the bush.
To further develop the program I will be working closely with classroom teachers and students, and the Garden Specialist (Claire) to provide education experiences that support the curriculum, whilst providing students with the knowledge and skills to develop lifelong healthy eating habits.
Feel free to drop by the kitchen to see what’s happening and say hi, or come along to help out in one of the classes. Volunteers are a vital part of the program, not only in helping out in the kitchen and sharing the joy of eating the food that is prepared, but in showing support for developing healthy habits for life!
Update
We’ve had an exciting two weeks back in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. We’ve welcomed our new cooking teacher Elisa who has hit the ground running cooking up a storm with our Foundation and 5/6 students.
The foundation and 1/2 students had a ripper of a day in the garden on Friday. It was a beautiful day, perfect for exploring the garden beds and searching all kinds of delicious goodies. The chickens were excited to see us – especially because we brought them treats to eat! We planted some sunflowers and can’t wait to see them blooming in summer.
Every Wednesday we will be have our student-run Monty Mini Market under the rotunda. Be sure to pop by and pick up a treat!

We require about 4-5 volunteers per session. Classes run from 12:20-2:00pm on Wednesday's with the Grade 5/6's. We also have 3 x 50-minute sessions per week for Foundation students at 10:40am, 12:20pm and 1:10pm each Thursday.
You do not need to be a parent of a student in that class to participate, however, as with all of our volunteers, you must have a current Working With Children Check card and present this at the office before your first session.
We look forward to some great things happening in the kitchen!!
