Leadership @ Monty

One of the highlights that I have experienced since my return has been the obvious level of engagement between our students here and their daily experiences at Monty PS.

There is an abundance of clubs on offer during recess time, EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK! At assembly this week, I acknowledged the extra time that the teachers put in to running these clubs. It is voluntary for our staff to lead a lunchtime activity. The number of clubs on offer really demonstrates the commitment our teachers have in ensuring that there are opportunities for learning in a variety of ways.

A priority at Monty is ensuring that each child is a connected learner! It has been wonderful to see how quickly our students settle into a well-established morning routine. The reading focus in our junior classes is exceptional. In support of our programs, please ensure that your child arrives at school on time, ready to commence this valuable aspect of our Literacy program. Our older students have excellent routine in place and it is just as important for them to be on time so that they have full understanding of the expectations for the day ahead.

Congratulations to our Foundation students for completing 100 days of school! This week they have been busy taking part in activities that relate to the number 100. It is a wonderful time to reflect on the development that we have seen in our youngest students. In such a relatively short amount of time, these children have shown so much growth in terms of their social and emotional ability as well as growth in  a range of academic areas!

Today we enjoyed a morning tea today with our Student Council Representatives from Semester 1. Well done to those children- a fabulous semester of good role modelling and leadership!

Congratulations to the students that recently completed the ICAS Science Assessment. There were some outstanding results, with some students receiving a Distinction or High Distinction.  The English ICAS assessment took place on Tuesday of this week and the Maths Assessment will take place on the 14th Aug. I encourage you to consider taking up this opportunity for your child next year, if you have not committed this time around.

Our Inter School Sports Lacrosse Team managed to win their way to the District Grand Final two weeks ago. The weather conditions were horrendous, with the students playing through heavy rain at times! Unfortunately they lost to Holy Trinity but must be commended on the grit and determination each player showed!

Tibaud Loewenguth participated in the State Cross Country held at Bundoora Park on the 19th July. Tibaud ran amazing times in a series of events leading to this day and did extremely well in the final, coming 30th overall out of approximately 91 runners from all over the state.  We are super proud of you Tibaud- a huge effort!

Next week our teams of teachers are participating in a Professional Practice Day whereby each level will be working on curriculum plans that demonstrate shared pedagogical knowledge. This of course, transfers to the classrooms where your child will experience a variety of engaging learning opportunities.

We are looking forward to some great events in the weeks to come. The week beginning 13th August is Science Week. Please put in your diaries our school Science Night- Thursday 16th August at 6pm.

The week after – commencing 20th August, is Book Week. Start preparing your child’s costume for our annual Book Week Parade- Monday 20th August during Assembly time.

A reminder that we are holding a Curriculum Day (student free day) on Friday 17th Aug. At this stage, Camp Australia are offering to run a program- if numbers reach a target. Please see Etta for more information.

Thanks to all our wonderful helpers who made our first Hot Chocolate Day this year, successful- a delightful aroma lingered in the Admin building for quite some time…

Have a wonderful weekend.
