Year Prep - Year 2

Assistant Principal's Report

Junior School News

Hello and welcome back to week eight!

I can't believe that this will be my second last report for 2019!

These past two weeks have been particularly busy for teaching staff as they have been frantically finalising student reports, ready for distribution next Friday.  Whilst I am sure that Teachers will be relieved to have almost completed a task that they pour hours upon hours of work into, at Pakenham Springs we are very mindful of the fact that there are three weeks of learning remaining in 2019 and our year level teams have been discussing how we can make these as purposeful and engaging as possible.  Despite the fact that reports are almost finalised, structured Literacy and Numeracy programs will continue to run in coming weeks - albeit with some fun activities such as class parties, sports days and transition sessions scheduled amongst these.

Last week saw the book fair arrive at Pakenham Springs, and we saw some fantastic turn-outs both before and after school.  Mrs Parnall was very pleased by how many books were sold and how much money was raised!  Last Friday was also our Junior School Athletics day.  All students seemed to have a great time competing for house points with many proudly displaying a lot of ribbons by the end of the day.  Having such a great parent turn-out was also fantastic to see.

During these past two weeks, the Prep Team (when they haven't been practicing their songs for the Carols and mini-market night) have been learning about capacity and how to compare the capacity of objects using terms such as full, empty, more and less. This week has also seen them drafting letters to their teachers for next year, with transition sessions beginning in week ten, so that their new teacher will know all about them come the start of the new school year when they move into Year One.

In Year One, students have still been learning about events from the past which culminated yesterday in their Olden-Days celebration.  Students (and staff) looked amazing, coming along in outfits that would have looked more commonplace in 1919 rather than 2019!

Lots of fun was had playing olden-days games and baking scones, with many parents again coming along to join in the fun!

In Year Two, students have been learning all about fractions during Numeracy sessions and exploring how they can make fractions of shapes and collections by sharing or cutting into equal pieces.  During inquiry sessions, students have been learning all about movement and the different forces that make objects move such as pushing, pulling and gravity.

Hopefully, next time I write, we will be experiencing some warmer weather!  Sunday may mark the start of summer but it certainly doesn't feel like it yet!  I look forward to hopefully seeing lots of you at our Carols and mini-market next Wednesday evening.

Until then, take care.

Regards
