Preshil lights up the longest night

Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice and I am looking forward to welcoming all the Preshil community to Arlington for this very special event. There is something mesmerizing in the simple contrast of lanterns and firelight on a cold, dark evening, which translates as magic for our children.

As usual the lantern parade and the whole school singing is the highlight, together with Preshil’s customary array of brilliant musical items, storytelling by Charlotte, dramatic art installations and plenty of mulled wine and food to warm us up from the inside out.

The Solstice is all finished before 7pm, so please try to come for even a short time on this shortest of days.

At Blackhall Kalimna we are looking forward to an exceptionally busy Term Three. It is the most intensive time of study for our Year 12 students as they begin the final leg of their secondary schooling – and the last year Preshil will have a VCE cohort. This year we have an outstanding group of Year 12 students and our staff is deeply committed to ensuring the best possible support for each of them.

Term Three also represents the start of planning for the following year. Therefore, in the second week back on Tuesday 24 July, at 7pm in the Library, Lenny Robinson-McCarthy and our team of IB Diploma Programme staff will host the first of our information sessions for students starting the Diploma in 2019.

While this most directly concerns the students and their families in Year Ten, all other families and prospective families are most welcome to attend this session to find out first-hand how Preshil offers a uniquely flexible, inclusive and highly supportive approach to the IB Diploma.

For the first time, we can talk from experience and parents will have the opportunity to hear from our teachers and ask the many questions we are now very pleased to be able to answer as experts, rather than enthusiasts!

Thank you to all the parents who have contacted me and supported our students and staff in countless ways during this half of the year, and I look forward to welcoming you all back after the break as we head towards all the joys of another spring.
