Year 7 Camp

Student Reflections

On arrival at camp, 125 year seven students sat excitedly in the Camp Oasis dining hall, waiting for their first activities to begin. After being promptly showed to their cabins, they lined up in their activity groups, eagerly anticipating one of their ten camp activities to kick off.

Swimming was the highlight of many students, as well as crate stacking, flying fox, the reptile house and archery. During the time at camp, we were joined by several year ten peer support leaders, as well as the Vice Principal of Regency Park Primary school; who shared with us some interesting and fun bush-dancing routines. We had the opportunity to dance and talk to many other year sevens. He finished off the night with a jaw-dropping magic show that still has us wondering.

The next night, we had a quiz and talent show to attend. Each table was a team, trying to win points from five rounds. In the end, table 9 took the win, under the name of ‘I NEED POINTS!’ earning themselves two tubes of Pringles, four litres of Coke, and a mountain of confectionery. The talent show was a big hit too, with seven show-stopping performances and three extremely harsh judges. In the end, all the year sevens had a blast at the talent show, and were inspired by the confidence of the seven performers and their groups.

Once bags had been packed, thanks had been given to the staff, and all prizes from the previous night had been devoured, the students got together a small backpack and set off on a 10 kilometre hike through the rugged bushland of Mount Evelyn, where we saw creatures such as Drop Bears and Splasher fish.

At the end of the walk, we were greeted by teachers and staff of the camp, with a prepared lunch.

We thoroughly enjoyed camp, and are incredibly grateful for the efforts of all the teachers on site. We can definitely say that it was an experience that we will never forget.
