A Week of Celebrations
The message in assembly this week was about having a go and doing your best during competitions. The focus being on personal best where your own achievement is what matters, not where you came in the race or which prize you received on the day. Being proud of yourself for knowing that you did your very best is the greatest reward of all. A timely reflection with the Olympics coming up where personal best times, jumps, throws, etc are front and centre. As the athletes start celebrating their hard work, we should acknowledge some wonderful achievements of our students and share the effort they have put in to their interests.
Ella Churchill from Year Five has been very busy dancing in competitions around the district. She won the Under 12 section of Classical Ballet in Hamilton, Warrnambool and also Mt Gambier. Ella won her Tap and Lyrical solo in Warrnambool and she received 2 Firsts for her Tap, along with the Most Promising Dancer award and shield for the whole Under 16 section in Warrnambool for the second year in a row.
Chloe and Skye Headlam from Year Three travelled to Stawell on Sunday to compete in gymnastics competitions. They both placed third overall for their efforts.
Sophie Merrin entered the Woolly West Fest story writing competition and won first prize for her story titled ‘Ice Magic’. Famous author Sally Rippin read all of the stories and chose a winner from each year level. Sophie’s prize is a signed copy of Big Book of Billie written by Sally herself.

One speaker will be awarded the Simons Family Cup for the highest individual score.
Year 4 Kid Entrepeneur
Club Kidprenuer is a program that the Year Four students have been working through. It teaches them about entrepreneurship and the various aspects of planning for, setting up and running a business. The students have been working in groups of three to design and set up a mini business. The program is divided into three stages: Ready, Set and Go. We have been working through the Ready stage which has focussed on the key components of product, goal, name and logo. Some of the students have shared their experiences below:
“I like doing Club Kidpreneur because we get to make our own business. We have almost completed the Ready stage. The stages we need to complete are Ready, Set and Go. My business is called “Benico Cardmarks”. We are making bookmarks and cards. We have three people in our group. In my group are Cooper, Bella and myself, Nick. When we finish we go out and set up our stalls to sell our products. We are giving the money we make to the charity “65 Roses”. We started with a $40 gift voucher to buy resources. We need to try and raise $75 to give back to Club Kidpreneur and anything extra we give to “65 Roses.”

“We have been designing our logo for our business called “Let It Grow”. We are trying to incorporate our business name and something about our business in the logo. We have been looking at the colours we can use in our logo. We are thinking about using green to represent the grass, yellow to represent the sun and blue to represent the rain. Club Kidpreneur is fun and exciting and we look forward to it every week. It is a good opportunity if we want to open our own businesses because it gives us all the information we need about starting a business and teaches us what we need to do to create a business and the types of business there are. We have learned that there are lots of steps to running a business. You need to get permission, sign forms and agree with your business partners. There are lots of things to do before you can start selling your product. We got cool kits that had lots of things in them to help us such as watches, hats, money bags, business cards and invitations.”

Art
Lots of things happening in the next few weeks in the art room, but I think we need to take a moment to reflect on the first few weeks of term! Woolly West Fest was a massive success. Students of all year levels wool bombed the College and Hamilton. Not only did we have a lot of fun, but we also got some positive feedback from the community via social media. One woman who was wool bombed on Gray Street posted a picture with the following caption: "I just got wool bombed in town today by The Hamilton and Alexandra College! It sure did make me smile. Thanks kids! Nothing like Sheepvention to bring the whole community together." Another recipient of a woolly surprise said, "I was wool bombed too! It would have been a real laugh to catch the bombing being carried out. What a treat!" The organisers of Woolly Wool Fest have labelled our project a WAK - Woolly Act of Kindness. Overall, I think everyone should be so proud of themselves. Thanks for all your hard work everyone and thanks again to all those parents that donated their items to the cause. As promised, all the names of students who brought in items were entered into a draw! The winner is officially Eleanor Tehan. I will ensure you have your prize next week. Now we will move on to some fun Olympic based activities before moving into our projects for the Term 4 Art Show.
