Bunny visit!
Georgie (Prep S) "Harper's mum brought 2 bunnies in to visit. We could feed them, pat them and hold them in our laps. We drew a picture and did some writing about the bunnies afterwards"
Check out the Bunny Fact File by Charlie E in Prep S. She did a beautiful drawing and wrote some interesting facts we learnt from our bunny visit: Did you know...

CERES Excursion
Sonny (2G) "We ate lots of bush tucker, and we did some ochre body painting. "
Will W (2G) "We got to choose our own patterns for the body painting and I used 6 dots to represent the 6 nations and Bunjil's wings on our nose and cheeks. We learned that they played a game with a possum skin ball"

Waste Warriors
We spent the morning braving the wet weather and doing a clean-up at Whyte St Reserve.
- The group of Ayla, Taveneet, Phillipa and Nico collected about 150 pieces of rubbish.
- Daniel noticed evidence of rubbish from kid’s parties around the playground, including lots of lolly wrappers
- Izzy, Finn, Phoebe, Lizie, Xavi and Jet found people dumping bigger household items, including a beanbag, was a major issue.
- Near structures, the kids found glass, cigarette butts and plastic indicative of older kids/adults rubbish.
- Jet and Izzy found evidence of fox or other wild animal living under the building (burrowing and fur). They inferred that it was probably attracted by food waste.
- Anton found the most interesting, a muddy Beanie Boo giraffe.
- Xavi found the most gross rubbish, three used nappies.
- Nico made the insightful observation that there was not much compostable rubbish, mainly plastic "because people are more unhealthy now".
We then had a ‘waste-wise’ incursion from Faina and Lachlan of the Bayside City Council waste management team. They talked about basic waste and recycling sorting principles and the lifecycle of rubbish, recyclables and organics.
Anton (5W) “I learnt that landfill has 10 layers and that recycling isn’t actually the best option, prevention is. Firstly, you don’t have to spend all the energy to make it. With recycling you not only have to make it once, you have to spend a lot of energy to make it into something else. They changed the bins tops red so it would be the same as other suburbs and made the body black to contain more recycled material.”

Grade 5 and 6 have been running a series of experiments for food science as part of their inquiry unit.
Anya (6B) "We have been doing experiments for food science and learning about the chemical reactions that take place when different ingredients were used. We mixed different ingredients to see which ones were emulsifiers. I learnt that different chemicals will separate and some will mix. We also did an experiment with tinned pineapple and fresh pineapple and how they set in Jelly because there is Bromelain in the fresh, but the processing of the tinned pineapple removes this enzyme so the jelly sets for the tinned but not for the fresh. "
Thomas (5W) "We experimented with different types of beans, some with heaps of salt, some with no salt, and some with bicarb soda. We had heaps of fun. I really liked the one with just salt. It was very tasty. We compared each of the beans in our books. I can't wait for the next experiment."
Grade 6 Leadership Action Plans
Scarlett (6B) "We have been split into groups relating to things we are passionate about. We have come up with an action plan to try to solve a problem. The action plans can be for things like events, fundraisers and awareness campaigns."
Annabelle (6B) "Our action plan group is about discrimination. We chose to focus on gender discrimination and violence against women. Our action plan involves hosting an information night for parents on how to identify violence against women and how to stop it. We will have a guest speaker, Paul Zappa, who is the Bayside Peninsula Lead for Respectful Relationships, and he will talk about the issue and will also help us run activities for the guests."
