MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION AT SCHOOL

Sometimes medication will need to be administered to students whilst they are at school.  We would encourage parents and carers to consider whether they can administer medication outside the school day, such as before and after school and before bed.

All medication to be administered at school must be:

  • accompanied by written advice from parent or carer on a Medication Administration Authorisation form providing directions for appropriate storage and administration
  • in the original container with the original label including the name of the student (if a prescription medication), information on the dosage and time to be administered
  • within its expiry date
  • brought to and from school by an adult

Students are unable to take their first dose of a new medication at school in case of an allergic reaction. This should be done under the supervision of the parent or carer at home, or your health practitioner.

Medication Administration Authorisation forms can be found at the office or via our website.  Please note, unfortunately we are unable to administer any medication without this form being completed or if the medication is not supplied in its original packaging.

Thank you.

HEAD LICE

They’re Back ……

Dear Parents/Guardians/Carers,

It has come to our attention that some students in the school may have head lice and we seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair this week.

Head lice do not transmit infectious diseases – they are transmitted by having head to head contact with someone who has head lice. You may be reassured to know that head lice are commonly found in places other than at Brighton Beach PS. Head lice are common in school-aged children and are the most adaptable of creatures. They have survived living solely on humans for 10,000 years!!!!

What can you do?

We seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treating your child’s hair. For further information on the detection, treatment and control of head lice please see the below link: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/ConditionsAndTreatments/head-lice-nits

If head lice or eggs are found on your child's hair you need to inform:

• the school and advise when treatment has started

• parents or carers of your child’s friends so they too have the opportunity to detect and treat their children if necessary.

When can my child return to school?

Health regulations require that where a child has head lice, that child should not return to school until the day after appropriate treatment has commenced. Please note, this refers only to those children who have live head lice and does not refer to the presence of head lice eggs.

Brighton Beach Primary School is aware that head lice can be a sensitive issue and is committed to maintaining your confidentiality.
