Grade 1/2 News

Term 3, Week 8

Grade 1 and 2 Reminders:

  • Welcome back for term 4! We can't believe we are in term 4 already, but know that it will be a busy term with lots of fun to be had along the way!
  • During this term Grade 2 students will have their sleepover at the Discovery Centre and we will complete swimming later in the term please keep your eye out for more information coming about these activities!

What we have been up to...

We ended last term with a performance after our participation in the 'Let's Get Moving' program. We were very proud of the effort and participation of our students and their ability to be a wonderful audience for the other year levels. We would also like to thank the school community for coming along to support this event.

Last week we began the term with a modified version (thanks to the unrelenting rainy weather) of Footy Colours Day. It was terrific to see everyone dressed up in their team colours and enjoying the skills and activities run by AFL Central Victoria. We did an awesome job as a school raising money to support children living with cancer.

Upcoming Fortnight:

Term 4 - Week 3 and 4

Literacy:  During the next fortnight we will focus on the reading strategies 'Expand Vocabulary: Use dictionaries, thesauruses and glossaries as tools' and 'Use beginning and ending sounds'. Students will practise writing procedural texts (recipes, instructions etc.) and will be learning about the phonemes 'ir, ur, er' as in bird and 'air' as in chair.

Mathematics:  In Maths we will investigate the properties of 2D shapes and also begin looking at the concepts of perimeter and area.

Topic:  Our topic sessions will encourage students to consider the design and purpose of different items/shapes and objects. We will explore the concept of being accurate and why this is important when designing something.
