Principal's Report
It's Wet!
I hope all of our SGPS community are coping with these extreme weather conditions. Everything has been fine at school, although we are aware that many of our families live in areas that may be affected by localised flooding. I trust everyone is safe and well.
School will continue as usual tomorrow, although the Bendigo Bus Network has been cancelled for all country bus travellers. A Compass alert will be sent to families if there are any changes.
Grandparents' Day
We are planning to have our first Grandparents' Day since the pandemic began. In recent times it has been held during Education Week in May, however, this year it will be held on Friday, 28th October. That's just over two weeks away! Please share this date with grandparents and special friends. More details will be provided via Compass soon.
New Basketball Ring
I was hoping to be able to include a picture of the new basketball ring lowered, with lots of Prep-2 children enjoying using it. Unfortunately, the wet weather hasn't allowed this, given that they are timetabled to use it on a Thursday and Friday. Let's hope next week allows them to enjoy this awesome addition to our school.
Thanks again to our Parent Club for funding the purchase and to BLR Provincial Construction for donating their time and resources for the installation.
COVID-19 isolation requirements have changed
The Victorian Government has announced the end of the Pandemic Declaration and associated Pandemic Orders. The following settings, based on advice from the Department of Health, now apply.
It is strongly recommended that students:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days
- should not attend school after 5 days if still symptomatic
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive should not attend school
- advise the school of the COVID-19 positive test result
Where students become symptomatic at school they should:
- be collected by their parents/carers
- undergo testing for COVID-19
Reporting positive COVID-19 test results
The Department of Health recommends that a person who tests positive for COVID-19 should inform those with whom they have recently been in contact, including their workplace, schools and household. Parents and carers will therefore be asked to continue to report positive student COVID-19 cases using the VicED COVID Tool.
Face masks
Students who wish to wear a face mask will be supported to do so. The Department of Health recommends that masks should be worn by a person who is a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 when leaving home. Additionally, the Department of Health recommends that masks should be worn by a person who has COVID-19, for at least 7 days after a positive test, when they need to leave home.
Outdoor Movie Night
As mentioned in a previous Compass alert, the Outdoor Movie Night has been rescheduled. Further details are below.

SWPBS
In the interests of honesty and transparency, I need to let everyone know that I received my first 'minor' last week. Evie and Maeve caught me running on a path and dealt with me in a swift manner. I let them know that I have learnt my lesson and promised that I will never, ever do it again!
Final Curriculum Day for 2022
Our final curriculum day for 2023 will be held on Wednesday 16 November. I will contact Camp Australia and see if they can offer a service on this day.
Emergency Contact Details
As we commence Term 4, and given the current weather, it is timely to think about emergency contact information that is held by the school for your child/children. Spring Gully Primary School is also on the Bushfire at Risk Register and up to date information is vital for the school. It seems crazy, but will will soon be talking about the risk of bushfires. If you or your listed emergency contacts have recently changed contact details, can you please make sure that the office staff have been informed.
Note: This also relates to the most up to date medical information for your child/children.
Change of Plans for 2023
Accurate enrolment numbers are crucial when it comes to planning for 2023. If your child/children will not be with us next year, please contact your child’s teacher or the office as soon as possible.
