Grade 6 News

There is a lot happening for our Grade 6 students this term. It will be a fun filled term of transition, graduation and celebration events. We will communicate information about these events through the newsletter and Compass throughout the term. Stay tuned!

Grade 5 News

We will soon be ordering our 2023 Grade 6 T-shirts! This is something special for our new Grade 6 students to look forward to. Over the next couple of weeks we will be sending out a form for you to fill in with sizes and preferred names for the T-shirt. Further details will be communicated through the newsletter and Compass.

Footy Colours Day

We finished off Week 1 with a fun filled Footy Colours Day! We had some visitors from AFL Central Victoria run some skill based activities with our students. We also enjoyed our Balloon Hockey Grand Final which went right down to the wire with the Byrons scoring a goal on the buzzer to beat the Locketts 4 -3. Well done 5/6 Byron!

Upcoming Fortnight

This fortnight in reading we will be continuing our focus on understanding author choices, specifically themes. We will discover and discuss how authors reveal and underlying message or theme through characters, plot and events. Throughout Week 3 and 4 we will be focusing on recount writing in the lead up to the Cold Write in Week 4, looking at the structure and mentor texts. We will also be spending time reviewing basic punctuation, sophisticated connectives and ambitious vocabulary.

In Mathematics, we will be looking at time in Week 3. Time consists of many elements and is a really important life skill. We will be looking at telling time, converting between units of time, 24 hour time, interpreting timetables, calculating elapsed time and much more! In Week 4 we move onto Location and Transformation which involves map construction, navigational language, symmetrical patterns and translations.

This term students gain real life understanding of the design and production process when creating a brand new product. We will finish our 'Bizarre Bazaar' unit with students marketing their original-and-must-have design through radio, TV and billboard advertisement mediums.

As part of STEAM time this term, the Grade 6 students have started to explore Tinkercad as part of our Digital Design unit where they will get to design and print using our 3D Printer. The Grade 5 students have started to build their own bot as part of out Robotics unit. Lots of designing, coding and problem solving on the way for everyone!

The Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) unit this term is 'Problem Solving'. Students will identify problems in given scenarios, participate in role plays, discuss different challenges faced in social situations and look at modifying an action based on advice.
