Debating

Each year, the Debaters Association of Victoria awards a ‘Swannie Award’ to the best individual speaker in the schools debating competition for each region, with St Bede's College annually competing for 'Brighton Region'. A very big congratulations to Harrison McCawley (Year 9) and Lewis Desmond (Year 12) for winning the ‘Swannie’ for D and A Grades!

Early in Term 4, our Year 12 debating team was invited by Star of the Sea College (Brighton) to participate in a display debate. Our students contended with the notion ‘That a world without men would do more harm than good,’ taking the negative side of the case.

Congratulations to all the students involved. They handled this topic with grace, tenacity and humour. Our College was represented by Leighton Miller, Lewis Desmond and Sean Courtier in their last event in the debating program before graduating.
