Grade 1 and 2 - Level 2

We hope this fortnight’s newsletter finds you and all the members of your family well.

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks in the classroom with students enjoying a range of activities, especially our recent tasks related to ‘Dinosaurs’ for our Inquiry unit. 

Earlier this week, students attended the first ‘Footsteps’ dance class, where they developed social skills, confidence and creativity through movement. Please see photos below.

ICAS Results

During our last assembly, we acknowledged the high achieving ICAS award winners for English, Spelling and Science, before congratulating all individuals for participating in the recent assessments.

Parent Maths Night 

A reminder to all parents that Vermont Primary School is holding a Parents Maths Night starting in the Stadium on Thursday, November 3 at 6.30pm. Come along to see a gallery of student work, participate in workshops when VPS staff explain procedures for teaching Mathematics, and find out more about the new VPS Maths Instructional website. SunSmart Policy

It was great to see so many students wearing their hats outside this week. Just a reminder that in Term 4 students are required to wear their school hat during outdoor activities. 

Also, please ensure hats are clearly named so they can be swiftly returned when misplaced.

Footsteps

During Term 4, children in Foundation, Grade One and Grade Two will be attending five 'Footsteps' dance classes for 45 minutes to an hour on a Wednesday from Week 3 onwards. The children had a wonderful time at their first session this week!

Melbourne Museum and IMAX Cinema excursion

As part of our Unit of Inquiry on Dinosaurs, Year 1 and 2 students are heading off to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX Theatre.  

The date for your child’s excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX Theatre is below. Please note the dates as outlined in this newsletter, because there have been some changes to dates.

Friday 28th October – 2BM, 2ED & 2SB 

Friday 4th November – 1ZA, 1CQ & 1HT  

Friday 11th November – 1GS, 2KJ & 2NF 

Payment is now open on Qkr!, the cost is $33 per student and the payment will need to be made by Friday the 21st of October. This cost covers the bus, entry into the museum and entry into IMAX. 

Students will need to be at school at 8:45am with the bus leaving at 9am sharp. They will need to bring their snacks/lunch, a drink bottle and a hat in a small back pack.  

Digital Technologies

This term the Year 2 students will be practising their touch-typing skills using the program typing.com. Students will be able to practise their typing skills using this program at home if they wish to.

First click on your child's class link and select 'use my existing typing.com account'. Next, students will need to enter their username and password (these details were handed out in Digitech this week).

2023 Class Preferences:

Earlier this term, you would have received an email regarding preferences for classes next year. However, please note the email was intended for parents to advise the Level Two Coordinator, Sarah Battle, of a specific request outlining an educational or well-being reason. 

Please do not email student friendship requests, because students will complete their own friendship request list while in class.
