2nd Hand Uniform Sale

Last week, Toni Bowman and her wonderful band of helpers ran a second hand uniform sale. We had a large amount of donations prior to this, so we also thank our families for their donations.

Our second hand uniform sales are great for the environment as clothes do not go to waste when children grow out of them.

An amazing $276 was raised on the day!

Playspace Works

For those of you who have been around the Prep Playground/Y5 rooms/Music room recently, you will have noticed a lot of activity happening!  The old wooden structures have been removed and we are having a new playspace installed.

If you have a chance to pop in to school at drop-off or pick-up time, please pass by this area and see what is happening. I look forward to sharing pictures with you when there is more to show than just some poles, as it will be a FANTASTIC play and learning space for our students when completed.

Students not returning in 2023 - Prep to Y5

If you know that your child/ren will not be returning to Valkstone in 2023, please e-mail the school office at valkstone.ps@education.vic.gov.au to notify us as soon as possible. Please include details of their last day with us here at Valkstone, the name of their new school, and a forwarding address if applicable.

Please note that if your child is currently in Year 6, this does NOT apply to you as we already have all their transition information.

Term 4 Values

Our values for this term are Tolerance and Appreciation.

TOLERANCE:

Lots of times, people have different ideas about things. When people have a strong belief that their idea is true, we call that an opinion. Even though people might have different opinions, they can still respect each other's differences even when they don’t agree on things.

Tolerance is all about respecting differences and not expecting others to think, look, speak or act just like you.

APPRECIATION:

People respond better and perform better when they feel they are appreciated. When people hear about their strengths from others and then acknowledge them to themselves, it builds their motivation and their self-confidence.

Showing gratitude is sometimes a required or expected thing, but at other times, a spontaneous “thank you” to someone who has unknowingly made our day. On most occasions, we show gratitude to bring the good feelings we have been gifted back to the gifter. While it is admirable to want to share our gratitude and good feelings with others, we rarely stop to think about what showing appreciation to others does for us too. As it turns out, it does quite a lot for our brains and mental well-being.

Acknowledgement of Country

On behalf of the teachers and staff at Valkstone Primary School, I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land that we gather on to learn, the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation. I would like to express my respect for and continuing commitment to the laws of Bunjil – respecting ourselves, others and the land. I would also like to pay my respects to all elders past and present.

Here at Valkstone, we gather in this special place as curious learners, to continue our learning journey together. I would like to express my appreciation to all of the Valkstone Community for being curious learners and for supporting each other to heal Country.
