Sport Report
It has been a busy time for sport over the last two terms, with many teams/students proudly represented the College at Division, Northern Metropolitan Region and State.
We have had many very impressive results. All students regardless of the outcome, participated to the best of their ability and displayed the College Values of Courage, Aspiration, Respect and Equality.
In Terms 2 and 3 we participated in Soccer, AFL, Netball, Basketball, Futsal, Cross Country at a Division Northern Metropolitan Region and State level, Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics and State Swimming.
Amity and Ashley Lansbury competed at the State Swimming Championships in late April. They both had a very successful day and Amity is now ranked 3rd in 15yo in 50m breaststroke, 4th in 15yo in 200IM and Ashley is ranked 4th in 13yo 50m breaststroke, 7th in 50m 13yo freestyle.
Early June was Cross Country time. 25 students competed in Division Cross Country under VERY wet, cold and challenging conditions. All students displayed the value of Courage participating in this event. We had 12 students from this event qualify for the Northern Metropolitan Region Cross Country. The weather in June was not nice to us and once again, students had to participate in very challenging conditions. There was no rain at the Northern Metropolitan Region Championships, but there was LOTS of wind and it was very cold. Once again, all students participated to the best of their abilities and proudly represented the College and themselves.
Jaidyn Freestone and Joshua Fitzgerald had standout performances, finishing 3rd and 6th respectively, qualifying for the State Championships. Both boys went on to participate in the State Championships, being great representatives for the College
This year we saw the introduction of an AFLW Gala day. Teams from all schools in the Banyule/Nillumbik region participated in the event. The College was represented by a junior and senior team. Both teams competed hard and had a fun day. The girls we lucky enough to have ex College Captain and Western Bulldogs AFLW player, Gabby Newton as an assistant coach on the day.
We had junior and intermediate soccer teams this year. The participation by both teams was fantastic, with a number of players displaying some amazing skills.
Netball and AFL are always popular, and every year level was represented across both codes. All teams played hard, displayed great skills, good sportsmanship and most importantly they all had fun.
Basketball proved to be our most successful team sport this year. We had three teams win Division, qualify them for NMR and two other teams narrowly missing out. The year 8 boys, year 7 boys and year 7 girls qualified for the Northern Metropolitan Region Championships, and the intermediate girls and the year 8 girls only missed out by one game.
We had Four Futsal teams, across Years 7-10, represented the college. All teams proved to be tough competition for the schools in our Division. All teams won multiple games at each round robin, and our Year 7 Boys A team won the Division Round Robin, qualifying for the Norther Metropolitan Region Championships.
Thus far in Term 4, we have participated in State Track and Field, Year 8 Volleyball, Northern Metropolitan Region Cricket, Northern Metropolitan Region Basketball and Northern Metropolitan Region Volleyball (today). We have upcoming Round Robins in Baseball, Softball, Cricket and Tennis.
On Monday 17th October Leigh-Roy Roe competed at the State Track and Field Championships in Discus. He participated to the best of his ability, displaying the college values of Courage and Aspiration. Up against some tough competition, Leigh-Roy finished a very respectable 8th.
On Wednesday the Year 8 Boys Basketball team participated at Northern Metropolitan Region Championships. The boys played extremely well and displayed great skills. They drew one game and won two, but unfortunately missed out on the final on percentage.
Best of luck to all students participating in the upcoming round robins.
