Vale Class of 2022
These final weeks for our Year 12 students have been a reflective and emotional time as they completed their final assessments, finalised course and pathways selections and prepared for final exams. The last three years have been incredibly challenging for our students as they navigated their way through remote learning and returning to school under the cloud of COVID-19. We are extremely proud of how resilient and strong the Class of 2022 has been.
I know Greensborough College has laid the foundations for the Graduating Class of 2022 to be thoughtful, caring, compassionate people who will be positive contributors to society. On behalf of the school community, I wish all of our graduates the very best in everything they set out to do. At our farewell assembly this week the words of American Poet and Civil Right Activist, Maya Angelou, resonated when she had cause to reflect on her life.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
We wish all of our students the very best during the exam period and we look forward to the final event that marks the Class of 2022’s transition from school to broader horizons, the Valedictory Dinner, on Friday 18th November.
NAPLAN 2022
Families should have received the NAPLAN results for Year 7 & 9 students in the mail. These were posted at the end of term 3.
As the students did not undertake the NAPLAN in 2020 there was no growth data available this year. Growth data shows the difference in performance for a student when they took the test two years prior. We use this data as in indicator of the impact of the curriculum programs and interventions over time.
The school wide data we can elicit from this year’s NAPLAN results is comparative data around the percentage of students in the Top 2 Bands for the domains that are assessed.
Greensborough College has a higher percentage of students in the Top 2 Bands than similar schools for the following domains:
Year 7
Year 9
Attitudes to School Survey
Every year the students undertake the Attitudes to School Survey. This data helps the school to plan for programs, resources and support. Whilst across the state, positive endorsement of many of the factors measured have understandably declined, comparatively Greensborough College students’ endorsement is higher than Similar, Network and State data on many of the measures. This tells us that our students are overall happy, healthy, resilient kids.
Our students’ positive endorsement is higher for the following measures:
Spotlight on Staff – Victorian Teacher Games
During the September school holidays, a large contingent of Greensborough College staff represented at the Victorian Teacher Games (VTG) in Geelong.
The Victorian Teachers’ Games (VTG) is a priority event for Victorian educators to participate, connect and be inspired. It is a major event on the education calendar and provides an opportunity for education professionals to participate and connect through a range of sporting, recreational/wellness and social events.
This event gave our team of staff a unique way to build team morale and enhance staff wellbeing. Their participation in the event is fully supported by the leadership team as we see this as an authentic example of how the staff at Greensborough College represent our College values of Courage, Aspiration, Respect and Equality at work and in their daily lives.
The team brought home a bag of medals and it has been great to hear the stories and witness the energy and enthusiasm they have brought back to term 4.
Well done Team GOATsborough!
World Teachers’ Day x
This year, World Teachers’ Day is on Friday 28 October. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contribution teachers make to our community.
We will recognise the passion teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through flexible learning.
We will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day through our social media. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our teachers for their magnificent work, especially over the past three years.
Students and families can get involved by sending a message of thanks to a teacher who is making, or has made, an impact on your life using #thanksvicteachers on social media. Don’t forget to tag the Department of Education and Training (the department) so we can see all your messages.
Head to the department’s World Teachers Day webpage for resources to help you celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2022, including ‘Thank You’ card templates.
