New Skate Park - Have Your Say!
Brimbank Council will be delivering a new Skate Park in Derrimut at Balmoral Park, which is set to be built towards the end of 2023/ early 2024.
Balmoral Park has been selected as the site to incorporate a skate park because it is centrally located in Derrimut and is easily accessible by public transport.
The design of the new skate park will consider a range of skate styles, abilities, age and gender in helping to create a welcoming environment.
To make sure the design of the skate park reflects young people’s needs and interests we want to ensure that young people have a say and inform the design of the skate park.
You can get involved by jumping on the Brimbank Your Say page and filling out the survey
https://yoursay.brimbank.vic.gov.au/balmoral-skate-park
The survey closes on 31st October.
Additionally, if you are keen to be more involved, we will also be holding two in person workshops in conjunction with the lead designers of the project to further inform the design of the skate park, at a later date. You can share your expression of interest by filling out the last section on the Your Say survey with your email address.

Bike/Scooter Helmets
A message from your local police
Victoria Police would like to remind everyone that all users of bikes and scooters (including the motorised versions) MUST wear helmets unless exempt. Police have had concerns raised by members of our community, and it is quite apparent that residents have become complacent regarding these laws. Mandatory bicycle helmet laws were introduced in July 1990. This applies when riding:
- on roads and road-related areas
- on bike and shared paths
- in bike lanes
- in recreational parks
- in car parks
- on footpaths.
Police can stop bike and scooter riders and issue a fine or warning for not wearing an approved bicycle helmet. The current fine for this offence is $231. Research indicates that bike helmets greatly reduce the risk of head injuries, which are the major cause of death and injury to bike riders.
- Bicycle helmets reduce the chances of a serious head injury by almost 70%.
- Two years after introducing bicycle helmet laws in 1990, there was a 23% reduction in head injuries in Victoria.
This is a significant safety issue, and Police encourage you all to look after yourselves, your family and friends.
