Principal's Report

No Hat No play

I love seeing our students working outside - here they are under our new Shade sails up near the Learning Shack - the shade sails were purchased via a $25,000 grant.

DARE TO LEAD:

This week I have been lucky enough to participate in a Dare to Lead, Brene Brown Course - run by the Victorian Academy.

Its been quite an amazing journey - with lots to learn and lots to bring back to ACPS;

A few quotes:

"A leader is anyone at any level who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes and has the courage to develop that potential."

"To scale daring leadership and build courage in teams, we must cultivate  a culture in which brave work, tough conversations and whole hearts are the expectation and  armour is not necessary or rewarded."

"Showing up is our power. Story is our way home. Truth is our song. We are brave. We are rising strong."

BIKE ED:

All our grade 5 /6 students are participating in our 5 week Bike Ed Program - hopefully next Thursday we will get to do the River ride ( weather and flooding dependent). We held our final practice on school grounds on Thursday - one that was slowed down (but not stopped) by the rain.

Sustainability:

Our Sustainability Team was invited to Currawong Park by Manningham council. 14 schools participated, 11 primary schools, 2 secondary schools and one P-12 school.

There were around 250 students at the event; 220 primary school and 30 secondary school students. Throughout the day student groups of mixed ages and mixed schools participated in activities such as making bee hotels, composting, making talismans from recycled materials, a creek walk, native animal encounters and many other activities.

Anna from Grade 4 said “I was in Butterfly group and our first activity was animals where we learnt what the animals do to protect our environment, for example the kookaburra evens out the snake population.”

Paddy loved the worm farm, learning more facts and how we can help the environment.

Giacomo in Grade 6 summed up the day beautifully “the experiences that you get from it are more important than the individual”.

Teacher Sarah Bailey said “It was so rich and rewarding to have students work alongside and learn from each other after the restrictions of the last few years. I loved learning with students about the ways Manningham council and Melbourne Water monitor the healthiness of creeks, dams and rainwater gardens. We got to use some testing equipment in the Currawong Bush park billabong and could see the water was in a very healthy state indeed. Our presenter showed us filtering equipment that can pick up DNA from animals and reptiles using the waterways so we know where frogs and platypus live!”
