Detention by

Tristan Bancks

This week in the Year 56 Library class we focused on the new book 'Detention' by Tristan Bancks. After reading the first chapter we looked closely at how the writer drew the audience into his novel. We noticed that he began right in the middle of an exciting part of the story. He spent time describing the hands of a character and he created a real sense of place with his descriptions. The students then spent time in their notebooks writing a story that started skating down Melville Street. Thye needed to make it exciting and descriptive so the reader could picture the scene in their head. In the next newsletter we will share some of their awesome story starters.
