School Council  2021

We have now finalised our Parent School Councillers for 2021 and our AGM will be held on Monday 29th March at 7 pm. This meeting is open to the community as we also present the 2020 Annual Report. If you would like to attend please let us know. Our new parent members filling the four vacancies are Kristen Black, Jade Forman, Louise Cavallaro, and Chris Opie. They now join our current members Danielle Gundrill, Carolynne Parkinson, and Danielle Wooley. A full list of community and staff members and office-bearers will be published after the AGM.

Parents and Friends

It has been great to see the school community getting behind our Chocolate Fundraiser. We are already nearly halfway towards our targeted figure of $2000. It looks like it could be quite a race to see which family will win the 10 KG Giant block of chocolate or 4.5 Toblerone. The meatballs were also a huge success on Monday and today the children took home catelogues from Scholastic with the opportunity to purchase books for the home which will also benefit the school.

It’s not OK to be away

The time is right to focus on improved attendance rates at Numurkah Primary School. Of course, if children are ill they cannot attend school especially in these Covid times, but after looking closely at our data we can see that quite a few children have unexplained absences.

Local and international research demonstrates a strong correlation between students’ learning, longer-term life outcomes and attendance at school, and appropriate participation in education programs.

It is important that children develop habits of regular attendance from an early age, as the older a child gets the more difficult it can be to establish new habits. Poor patterns of attendance place students at risk of not achieving their educational, social, and future potential as adults.

Once learners have begun to absent themselves from pre-school or school, and the initial cause of this remains undetected or unresolved, it is likely that the pattern of absence will continue and escalate through their subsequent schooling and adulthood.

Please remember that if you are experiencing difficulty in having your child attend school, discuss the matter with your child’s teacher or contact the Wellbeing Team. We have met recently and will be contacting families that may need support with a school attendance plan.
