Mangahigh and Mathseeds
Last year, BNPS took the opportunity to trial a number of different online Maths programs, with the view of adopting a platform that suited the needs of both the younger (Prep – Year 2) and older (Year 3 – 6) students.
After trialling a number of programs, it was decided to move on from Mathletics and adopt two online programs – Mathseeds for the junior students and Mangahigh for the senior students.
Why did we chose Mangahigh and Mathseeds?
Mangahigh and Mathseeds was chosen for a number of reasons.
They ...
- are tightly mapped to the Victorian curriculum
- contains adaptive quizzes designed to assess and build skills
- includes games that build and reinforce targeted skills
- is personalised to each student’s level of performance and achievement
- allows both teachers and students the ability to track and manage student progress
- is a high quality platform and well supported.
In addition, Mangahigh allows us to access Maths concepts and content which go beyond the primary curriculum, which can be very useful, particularly in Years 5 and 6.
2021 roll out…
Mangahigh is currently being introduced to the students in Years 3 – 6. Some year levels have already started and others will be commencing in the coming weeks. Initially, Mangahigh will only be used in class. Specific quizzes and games will be assigned by teachers, to compliment the learning intentions of the Maths unit being taught (e.g. Place Value).
Opportunities to use Mangahigh for homework will be explored as the year progresses.
As a teaching team, we’ll continue to learn more about how Mangahigh can enhance our teaching of Maths. This will include opportunities for professional development from our designated Mangahigh Teacher Success Coach.
Mathseeds
Mathseeds is a highly interactive and personalized learning journey that will help your child build mathematic skills that supplement the Beaumaris North Primary School maths program. They simply sign in with their Mathseeds user-name and password using any compatible computer or mobile device. We have sent home a letter with their username and passwords and some instructions on how to link to a parent account.
This is supplementary to the maths lessons your child will be receiving in class. Initially Mathseeds will only be used in the classroom and as with Mangahigh, opportunities to use Mathseeds for homework will be explored as the year progresses.
