Year 4 News
Well done to the Year 4’s who have been working hard on their homework tasks, recording reading, completing spelling and maths tasks.
We have begun our new Unit of Inquiry, “Communities Evolve in Response to Many Factors”. We unpacked the unit last week, looking at synonyms for each of the words. Eventually we created our own Central Ideas with the words we came up with as a class. Children are looking forward to beginning the unit which includes a big diary writing element and some opportunities to ‘choose your own adventure”!
Welfare wise, the Resilience Project has been helping us tune into being mindful. Students went outside and spent some time observing what they could see, feel and think. We have also been learning about character strengths and empathy.
In Maths we are continuing to work on Place Value but have recently looked into multiples, factors and map reading too.
We are working hard on Daily 5 in literacy and during the writing process some students are publishing their narratives with a specific focus on the organisation trait and learning when to start a new paragraph.
Eg. When either of the four things change: Time, topic, person or place.
The Cybersafety Project has seen us launch the second official lesson where we have learnt about public, private and personal spaces online. Students took part in an activity where
they listed online spaces in each category and then covered them in either opaque paper,
tracing paper or celephone.
This gave the children a good visual understanding of the spaces as well as a fun activity that promoted lots of discussion.
