Halo semuanya!

Week 6 was an exciting week for Foundation students who attended school for the entire day on Wednesday after having assessment for the first 5 weeks!! Well done to all students for having a fabulous day and a fabulous week even without the usual Wednesday break.

We shared many firsts together in Week 6, first buddies meeting, first official Junior Assembly, first STEM challenge, and for some Foundation classes, our first time borrowing a book from the library! Our Year 5 buddies came to introduce themselves and have lunch with us on Tuesday. Foundation students are excited to spend more time with their buddies this year doing some super fun activities!

Foundation students explored how they could use spaghetti and marshmallows to make a strong, free-standing creation in our STEM challenge! It was fantastic listening to the conversations between students about adapting their creation to make it stronger. The students demonstrated teamwork, perseverance and creativity during the building process. Their love of learning was highlighted when they drew detailed pictures of their creations and even had a go at labelling the different materials using the first sound that they could hear!

On Thursday FH spent time in the Garden as a part of our Kitchen Garden program. We harvested potatoes for 3/4D to use in their homemade potato salad and even picked some fresh tomatoes and berries to enjoy too!

"These strawberries are so juicy!" - Anoshka
"We found a big potato" - Finn
Digging up LOTS of potatoes!

Student Voice

In Maths, we made a key words poster all about counting after playing some games with dice and dominoes to practise our subitising:

  • Clara - "Subitising means we don’t have to count the dots all by ones"
  • Andy - "We can use tens frames"
  • Phoebe - "We use dice and dominoes in our games"
  • Nethun - "I can count to 100"

Reminders

  • Please bring a labelled library bag and the previous week's library book to return each Wednesday so that students can borrow a new book.
  • PMP begins this week - Friday March 12th - if you are able to assist with running a station during your child's class time please sign up via the Calendly link you have been sent.
  • Please ensure your child's hat, jacket etc. are named. This will help them to be quickly returned to them if they are misplaced.
  • Pleasant Snacks - if your child is buying anything, please send money with them and not their sibling. Foundation have an allocated time to purchase before other year levels.

Pupil of the Week

FD: Georgie I -

For demonstrating a love of learning in writing tasks. It has been so great to see you having a go at writing words by listening to the sounds you hear. Fantastic job Georgie!

FH: Anoshka M -

For demonstrating teamwork and creativity when you worked with your group to build a free standing tower during our STEM challenge. You kept trying even when your spaghetti and marshmallow structure fell down! Well done Anoshka!

FJ: Ben C -

For demonstrating kindness when welcoming a new student to our class. You have helped a new friend get to know his school and settle in. Great work Ben!
