Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selamat siang, Grade 1/2 families! We’re so excited to be back at school after what was hopefully a very good chance for everyone to recharge their batteries after a relaxing long weekend. Although we only had 4 days at school, it was still a jam packed week in the Inquiry Centre.

In Maths, The students have continued to learn about Place Value, even taking the opportunity to upload a portfolio task where they each chose a particular number and showed all the different ways they understood it. This includes how many hundreds, tens and ones, how they could make the number using MABs or icypole sticks, expanding the number and showing 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less. Students also learned a new game called Beat The Steps where they tried to win the game by filling in all the gaps in a ladder, making sure that all their numbers were in the correct order.

The Week 6 Literacy Group focus was on making predictions before, during and after reading. To make effective predictions, students needed to take clues from the text and use what they might know from personal experience. Predicting helps people become better readers by deepening their understanding and making connections with the text.

The children continued their narrative focus in Writing by drafting and adding a problem to the middle of their stories. Students have been doing a fantastic job using their character strength of creativity to come up with some amazing problems and we cannot wait to see some of the solutions that they can come up with!

A big highlight of the week was when MPRPS had a very special visit from some very important people in our community. The students have been learning all about emergency services in Guided Inquiry and were thrilled to meet some police officers from the Forest Hill Police Station. They learned all about the different jobs that police do, the equipment that they carry and what happens if someone needs the police in an emergency. Students were invited to ask their own questions, using their character strength of curiosity. However, most students really enjoyed getting to hear the police car put on it’s siren and flash its lights!

We can’t wait to see everyone back for Week 7 after the long weekend!

Terima kasih,

Miss Glen, Mrs Gill, Miss Honan, Mr Jenkins, Mrs Seadon, Miss Wang and Miss Vo.
