Classroom News - Kindergarten

Mrs McMillan and Miss Simpson

English

Kindergarten have been very excited to meet their new friends this term. Last term we were introduced to Poppy Princess, and we revisited the letter ‘p’ this term before meeting Iggy Insect. As always, it is wonderful if parents and carers talk to their children about the new sounds they are learning and what other words they can think of that start with those sounds.

Maths

In maths, we have been learning about numbers to 20. We have been learning to count the numbers and to read the numbers. Counting to 20, and asking what comes before and after a numbers are easy activities to do on the way to school or on the couch at home.

This week we have started addition and subtraction again. If you talk to you child about this at home, the language we use is “and” instead of “plus“, “take away” instead of “minus” and “makes” instead of “equals”.

Religion

Now that we have come back from the holidays, we have been learning about the Easter Story. We have been focusing on the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead while thinking about our favourite parts of the story and identifying how different people in the story would be feeling.

PDHPE

In PDH we have been unpacking our Living Well, Learning Well Wellbeing buttons. We have looked at the ways to be safe at school, and this week we are looking at how to be respectful and respected at school.

In PE we have been having lots of fun playing with the balls. We have practiced batting the ball with our hands, rolling the ball and throwing the ball up and catching it. We lost a few balls in the process!

Geography

We are continuing our Geography unit of caring for places this term. This fortnight we have been looking at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People's sacred places and discussing why they are special and how we can care for them.

Fun Run

On Tuesday Kindergarten and Year 1 went over to the paddock to take place in a Fun Run. We all had a wonderful time in the sun, and we were so exhausted by the end of it. The paddock is larger than we thought!
