Classroom News - Year 4

Mrs Ross and Mr Norrie

Term 2 is here and Year 4 is hard at it!

English

During our English block in Year 4 we are looking into the skill of explanation writing.

Along with explanations, Year 4 will look at recounts and a number of reading strategies, this will be run closely inline with our new and improved spelling process and handwriting.   Lucky for Year 4 this term our Science and History units are easily shared across our learning.

Science

Year 4 are delving into the world of outer space!

Our search for answers starts with our sun and moon. This will go further as we investigate the ever changing cycle of the moon and the affects that the sun has on Earth.

Religion

Our term has begun with a Unit around one of the most important celebrations in our Catholic faith, the season of Easter.  Year 4 has taken time to reflect on their learning and their understanding of Easter.

Maths

Maths has challenged many individuals as we start Term 2!  Decimals is one of the more difficult concepts covered in Year 4. Understanding place value smaller than a whole number is a confusing concept, not to mention fractions next to it.

PDHPE

Term 2 brings new games and challenges, with our unit of learning being My Kitchen Rules (MKR) we will discuss the importance of a healthy diet and why it affects our bodies especially as we enter adolescent years.

Year 4 will be practicing the skills needed for our field events during PE and further enhancing our team work skills, these will be tested through traditional Indigenous games.
