Sandhurst Swimming

On Wednesday the 10th of March, an eager Castlemaine Secondary caught the bus early in the morning to the Bendigo Aquatic Centre to compete in the Sandhurst Swimming competition against all of the other Bendigo schools. The swimming conditions were perfect, not to hot and not too cold.

It was great to see a number of students signing up and having a go against other schools, despite not being able to run our whole school carnival. Everyone did a great job competing and supporting each other. Big thank you to Mr. White, Mr. Lourey and Miss Walsh for driving and making sure we got to our events on time.

Tennis

On Monday the 1st of March, the 9/10 boys and girls tennis teams headed down to Bendigo with Mr. Van Emmerick to compete at the Sandhurst tennis competition. Everyone was really excited to compete, given the lack of sporting opportunities last year due to COVID.

When we got to Bendigo, there were 8 other schools competing against us. We played in doubles and played 3 rounds. East Loddon and CMC played really well and were the teams who ended up going through to the next round for the girls and boys sections.

Thanks to Mr. Van Emmerick for taking us down to Bendigo for a fun day!

Senior Volleyball.

Castlemaine Secondary College senior volleyball team headed up to Bendigo Stadium on Wednesday 3/3/21 to compete in the Sandhurst carnival.

First up we played eventual winners Bendigo Senior and came out of the blocks firing, quickly getting to 10-5 advantage.  This stirred up Bendigo Senior and they eventually won the first set 20-16.  They took control of the match winning the second set 20-14.

Next up was Girton Grammar in what was a very hard-fought contest.  Castlemaine won the first set 21-19 and lost the second 18-20 to set up a thrilling decider.  Although we had two match points, we went down 18-16 in the third.

Our final game was against Catherine McAuley where again we hit the ground running winning the first set 20-14.  Unfortunately for our boys we ran out of steam losing the next two sets.

Although we didn’t win any matches, CSC played in great spirits, and was commended by the referees and opposing teams for their effort, commitment and enjoyment of the game.

Congratulations to Austin NG who was awarded MVP for our school.

Well done to all of our players.
