Inclusion and Diversity

Mental Health Awareness

A priority for TEM Hockey Club is to enable the sport of hockey to play a role in strengthening the mental health and wellbeing of our membership. This is increasingly important as the community moves through a major unsettling period of time. We're fortunate that we are able to get back to training activities and start looking forward to practice matches and competitions. But we don't even need to be currently competing in order to provide this value.

Community sport offers an ideal space to support mental health and wellbeing, particularly for young people.

It provides a safe space and trusted network where people feel socially connected.

High numbers of young people participate in organised sport, meaning that clubs, leagues and associations can provide an important context outside schools where positive messages, mental health education and guidance regarding support services can be provided.

These thoughts will underpin our actions on and off the field in 2021. If you are interested in helping to develop policies and practices and promote activities, your personal experience and enthusiasm is welcome and appreciated. Please feel free to help out, call or email me whenever you get a chance.
