Remote Learning Program (RLP-2)

To quote William Shakespeare’s Henry V- “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more” On Wednesday we commenced our second Remote Learning Program (RLP-2) for 2020. Whilst not the ideal situation for our Junior School learning community, I feel confident we are in a strong position to work through the next six weeks of remote learning with confidence, optimism and resilience. During Wednesday’s Assembly, I shared with the students the importance of a ‘glass half full’ approach.

*We can’t always control what we are given to do, but we can control how we do it.

*We have only 28 days of remote learning until we are back at Myrniong.

*We have 24 days until Spring.

* We need to be kind to ourselves and value a ‘less is more’ approach.

I thank Junior School parents in advance for their support and patience during RLP-2.

Remote Learning Challenges

Each week at Junior School Assembly, students will be set an optional Remote Learning Challenge . This week they have been asked to commence making an ‘I am/I have’ paper chain. For each of the 28 days spent remote learning at home, students are asked to write a positive statement on a strip of paper. Each is then linked to create a chain of positive reflections. I shared a chain I had started during the Assembly. My statement for the first day of RLP-2 was “I am lucky to work at a great school.’  I look forward to the students returning with some creative and reflective paper chains.

Division 4 Hockey

Alas, two weeks into our abridged season and we have had to call stumps on playing competitive hockey. I thank the players, Ms. Valetta Bolton, Mrs Peta Alexander, Kate Headlam, Sean Spence, David Merrin, Heath Templeton and Mr. Ben Hawthorne for their coaching and managing efforts.

Saturday afternoon at a positively balmy Pedrina Park saw all four College  teams playing each other.

In the 1.30 pm fixture, College Bandicoots defeated a gallant College Numbats side 3-0. The score line did not reflect the closeness of the match. Bandicoots were best served by Alex Donovan, Sophie Merrin, Sasha Laidlaw, Harry McDonald and Will Baker. Numbats’ better players were Arabella Little, Sybil Fleetwood, Chloe Headlam and Harriet Nicholls.

College Tassie Devils and College Drop Bears played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Tassie Devils led 2-0 in the early stages of the second half. Drop Bears levelled the match with 10 minutes to play. Best for Tassie Devils were goalie Jake Butcher, Ciaran Nelson, Olive Jackson and Olivia Read. Drop Bears’ better players were Tom Templeton, Charlie Jarvis, Jake Alexander and Charlie Noske.

The always alert Bandicoots coach Dave Merrin pointed out that after two rounds of hockey, they were at the top of the ladder, and therefore should be crowned winners of the 2020 COVID Cup!
