Middle Years

"We are all in this together"

This continues to be a year that holds many surprises as we enter a second phase of remote learning. It has taken several days to process these changes. We are all adjusting to the Stage 3 Restrictions and wearing facemasks.

It is important that we build upon the success of the first RLP.  We learnt a lot about how to deliver remote learning well and we learnt many skills that will help us in this next period. I said to students that we need to keep this in perspective and stay optimistic. I would really like to focus on staying engaged and motivated as these are vital intrinsic factors that have a huge bearing on each student’s success.

As Mr Nelson said to me last Monday “We have a 3+25 day challenge and this is quite doable”, and I’m going to call this the 25+Challenge.

How are you going to approach RLP2?

  • What worked well during the last RLP?
  • What can you improve on?
  • Can you build exercise and leisure into your day?
  • What does “being your best” during remote learning look like and feel like?

Some important feedback that I have received from students in recent weeks;

  • Prepare a daily schedule and stick to it.
  • You need to maintain focus and overcome procrastination.
  • Work on trying to be efficient.
  • Get your sleep routine right.
  • No social media during classes, get off your phones.
  • No gaming during the day.
  • Reach out to teachers, mentors, and friends if you need a hand.
  • It’s okay to have days that don’t work out as well as others.
  • Discipline and commitment are needed, and I would encourage you all to give it your best.

We are learning a lot about how to enhance our well-being during this changing time, and so I really encourage all students to look after their well-being by getting exercise, having plenty of sleep and eating well. Be kind, helpful and patient at home, as everyone is in this together.
