Teaching and Learning

More

Welcome to our Continuous Remote Learning Program Version 2.0. This term we continue with the theme of ‘less is more’ as we teach and learn remotely.

The Hamilton and Alexandra College has worked hard to provide each student with the opportunity to continue their learning during these unprecedented times. Teachers learned how to deliver effectively in the RLP 1.0, using a range of new online platforms, obtain feedback and tailor programs to suit the learning needs of each child. Our return to Remote Learning Program Version 2.0 builds on this rich foundation of effective learning but offers our students more.

We have built in more independent study time between the 30-minute periods for Years 7-10 and additional time to consolidate learning or contact teachers between 2.30-3.30 at the end of the day. For VCE students a full 45 minutes will provide more continuity in learning, allowing more time for delivery and the School Assessed Coursework (SACs).

One of the exciting outcomes of our RLP last term was the growth in students’ ability to learn independently and bring more control and agency to their learning program. We would ask parents to partner with us as we work hard to help each student maintain connections with their peers, with class members, Mentor groups and House. There are several ways you can help your child this term:

1. Watch the Live Online Assembly with your child at 8.40am on Wednesday mornings and learn more about the activities at The College.

 2. Attend the Student Parent Teacher Interviews in week 6 or 7. These interviews with the subject teacher will provide more specific feedback about your child’s learning and how he or she might progress this semester. Information about how to book these interviews will be published next week.

3. Read with your child or to them. Whether your child is in Year 7 or 12, there can be great merit in reading the texts that they are studying in English and making this the focus of conversation and building more connection with them.

We know that we learn best in relationship, when we are connected to a class or a peer group. At The Hamilton and Alexandra College we work hard to foster connection between our students and provide every opportunity we can to help each child flourish and be the best they can be.
