Well-being

Well-being at GGLPS

It is essential that all students in the school feel safe and know that they belong to a supportive and caring environment. Well-being in a broad sense to us incorporates behaviour management, programs to support students socially and emotionally and the development of strategies to act responsibly and aid learning. You are encouraged to discuss these ideas and strategies with your children to reinforce what is happening at school.

Building a Strong Culture of Wellbeing

Over the many years of being involved with Golden Grove Lutheran, I have watched the school, especially over the past few years, take even further steps to build a strong culture of wellbeing. We have undertaken a number of initiatives and found new ways to support students with having a better understanding of themselves as a person.

Below is an outline I read from New Zealand that really highlights changes of thought that have been put in place to build a stronger culture (whanau for those who are unsure means – extended family and yes, I had to look it up).

I love how the focus and development have been moved onto the child. What we are continually aiming for here at GGLPS is one where each child can grow in a way that sees wellbeing as a good thing and one that is supported by both students and staff.

Moving from an adult focus to student focus straight away shows that the focus is on the child. Using restorative approaches has allowed students to work together to mend broken relationships. Wellbeing values are clear for students in all aspects of the school and many different strategies are put in place to continually support wellbeing. What I really love is that it is ok to ask for help and that it is encouraged. I love that I see this regularly throughout the school day.
